I originally went to try the tantanmen, but ended up ordering the delicious spare rib noodles out of nostalgia for a similar dish in Osaka. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the flavor was satisfactory. However, while the spare rib noodles were tasty, they felt a bit too refined for my taste. I wished for a bit more pork bone and pepper in the soup to add a wilder flavor. Also, I would have liked some rice with the set meal. This restaurant seemed to cater more towards women and the service was good. Be cautious of the narrow and steep uphill path at the entrance, as it can be a challenge for motorcyclists. It's best to check the restaurant's regular holiday schedule beforehand as it may vary. Refer to the photo for the regular holidays in May 22.
In Ukiha, I found a shop that serves tantanmen and went to eat there. Inside the restaurant, there were table seats and counter seats. Without hesitation, I chose the counter seat where I could see the view of Ukiha through the window! The scenery reflecting cherry blossoms, persimmons, and autumn leaves seemed to change with the seasons. The tantanmen had a well-balanced soup with richness and spiciness. Above all, the noodles were amazing. The thin noodles had a firm texture, and with each bite, I nodded in approval of its deliciousness. I will definitely come back for this bowl again, but the mapo tofu was also excellent, and the Chinese four dishes in the set meal were made with great care and no shortcuts, giving off a taste that even an amateur like myself could appreciate. I was impressed by the hospitality of the staff at the restaurant, and drove home with a lingering sense of satisfaction.
I was surprised by the steep slope at the entrance, but the restaurant on the hilltop has a nice view. The interior of the restaurant is very clean. Since I arrived at the restaurant close to the end of lunchtime, I ordered the set meal (including mapo ramen with mini salad and rice) due to ingredients running out. The thinness of the noodles in the ramen was unexpected. It had been a while since I had thin noodles, but they were delicious and paired well with the soup. The soup was elegant and free of any unwanted flavors. I was initially hesitant about the medium spiciness, but it was just right. I might try ordering a slightly spicier dish next time. I also tried scooping up just the mapo part with a spoon and having it with rice. I will definitely come back again.
