Eat the homemade specialized ice cream, first! The food is delicious and reasonable amount to share. It's kinda far from home but a beautiful drive on 21 MoByway. Can't wait for Wild Ones to begin this project to beautify with Native Flowers! Noteworthy details: Close to Tip Top Scenic view, Tom Sauk and Elephant Rock and other places.
I brought the family here for dinner after a float trip. We were staying at a bungalow just up the street. Dinner was outstanding. I had a hard time choosing a meal. There is a salad bar. The service was good. The prices are reasonable. An owner was our waiter. He was friendly, informative and fun to talk to. We decided to have breakfast here the next morning, too. That was also very good. They also had fresh food for sale that comes from bakery. My wife loved the cinnamon roles. I had the biscuits and gravy and shared some French toast with the kids. It was all very good. They also have a creamery next to the restaurant that serves frozen custard. We stopped here after dinner. We all enjoyed our custard. There selection limited but they had all the popular flavors. The building is historic and definitely has a presence. I've driven by it many times over the years and had no idea there was a restaurant here! The atmosphere is relaxed and quaint. All-in-all the food and experience was good and we hope to stop here again some day. Nearby activities: The black river stands out for float trips. The state park has plenty of hiking. It includes the largest waterfall in the state of Missouri. Johnson's shut-ins and elephant rock are both in proximity. Food drinks: The food is tasty and fresh. There are quite a few good options to pick from. I had a hard time deciding what to order. The service was very good.
Love this restaurant and I highly recommend. Service was slow while they were busy but then we had plenty of attention. We actually went twice over the weekend while camping in the area. Check it out. Beautiful old buildings with plenty of character. Employees are very friendly. Food was good. And the cinnamon rolls. Wow. Very tasty!!!
We came for the kitchen and were not disappointed. The Big Pretzel was fresh made with beer cheese; a perfect combo. The catfish was melt in your mouth good. The May Day Monty was a clever clash of breakfast foods made into a sandwich. Overall the food was great. We took the tour after and had ice cream to boot. Nearby activities: We took the free tour of the building after we ate lunch and got to see the Abbys. The restoration process and time/love that has gone into the project. It was very interesting to see history and effort going into the project. Food drinks: After the tour we stopped into the ice cream shop for some homemade dessert.
