The cheaper menu only came out when they thought we were leaving due to the high prices. However, the food on the ‘alternative’ menu is actually quite good. Overall the biggest selling point is definitely the view from high over the main square (the lovely Plaza de Armas) which is great, day and night. Another nice aspect is that since the terrace is in the open air and it does get cool, they have ponchos to keep all the customers warm. Staff are very friendly but service a little on the slow side.
Went here with friends one evening for some crepes. I definitely recommend going at night so that you can see the Cathedral and the plaza all lit up. It is incredibly beautiful and the crepes we ordered were pretty good, too! It is pricey, so that's why we just came for crepes, but the experience is something to remember, for sure!
The evening before we had walked through the Plaza de Armas, and from right in front of the Catedral, had noticed what appeared to be an outdoor terrace bar at the absolute top of one of the adjacent buildings. We decided we had to come back for a drink and the view. The next evening we returned. There may have been an elevator, but we never found it. The uppermost bar and restaurant is (probably) 6 or 7 flights of narrow stairs up from the plaza level. On the way up you pass several windows with vignette views of the Catedral. The views just keep getting better. Finally you reach the top, and it's spectacular. The outdoor tables are right at the protective rail at the edge of the terrace. The Pisco Sours were excellent. A little surprisingly, the food was excellent as well. Some of the reviews of the restaurant in TripAdvisor have been equivocal. Maybe we were lucky, or just so happy with the view we didn't care, but everyone thought the food was excellent. I had the lamb in fig sauce, while my colleagues had alpaca or lomo steak. No one was disappointed. I will definitely be returning the next time I have friends that I would like to show the best view in Arequipa.
