The steak was very tender with no grisel and it was full of meat. It tasted like well seasoned filet mignon, but they said it’s fresh ribeye. I will definitely be going back for another cheesesteak.
Perhaps the best cheesesteak I've ever had, and I've been a Philadelphian my whole life. I haven't tried anything else on the menu, but I've had my fair share of cheesesteaks. It's absolute perfection. And the restaurant itself is just a small, unassuming spot... But that doesn't matter when the food is this delicious. Mmmmm, Mama's.
You won't find a better cheesesteak anywhere else! The food is fantastic!
I haven't been to Mama's since 1996, when I was doing my residency at Temple University. Mama's was always my favorite spot for Philly cheesesteaks back then. Even though I now live in California, I've been craving their cheesesteaks for the past 28 years. Finally, I had the chance to revisit Mama's with my wife and show her my old favorite places. We ordered an original cheesesteak with mushrooms to share, and let me tell you, it was even better than I remembered. The sandwich was huge, filled with delicious, tender, and gooey cheese. I used to be able to eat a whole one by myself, but now half is plenty for me. I'm grateful that Mama's is still open after all these years, and I hope it will still be around the next time I visit Philadelphia, whenever that may be.
I don't eat beef so got the chicken cheesesteak instead. They use chicken chunks instead of ground chicken so the cheese wasn't evenly spread out and kind of congealed on the top. On the plus side, the cheesesteak was massive and filling so it's a good value. Overall it was decent but I'd look elsewhere for a chicken cheesesteak.
