Contribuisci feedbackLast night Bonnie G. and I joined with 13 other diners in a Meetup group experienced Blue Fish...We had not tried it because of mixed reviews and from the photos taken by other Yelpers. Well, We did it and were glad we did! We sat at 2 tables in the bar side of the restaurant and were made to feel very comfortable by the staff..especially our waiter with the small pony tail...such a gentlemen... The diners ordered various items which covered the gamut of hot foods to our sashimi choices. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented without being overdone. They had some new seasonal items of which the Fried Red Snapper in curry sauce was outstanding. Bonnie G. and I shared a large Sashimi platter consisting of : Belly salmon Belly yellowtail Salmon Roe Unagi Eel Ama Ebi Sweet Shrimp with tempura fried heads And also a Kamakaze Roll and Salmon Skin roll all in all the place is comfortable, service is excellent and most importantly the food is prepared beautifully and the fish is FRESH! Now that we have the scoop we will get the Groupon and return often.
It is not clear to me why this listing for Taku II is a continuation of Blue Fish when this is a different restaurant. With that said, the sushi at Taku II was extremely fresh and portions were generous. Prices are average and quality is above average. Service is friendly but either a language barrier, inexperience or both resulted in a few items that we ordered not arriving and had to be requested twice. The restaurant was empty on a Saturday evening at 6pm. Very strange. Blame it on location I guess.
I 've lived in Brooklyn Queens my whole life, so I 'm pretty sure I know what good sushi is. Well, this place has GREAT sushi. I recently moved to Hicksville (God I really hate that name lol), I have been looking for a good sushi place that wasn 't too pretentious, yet fun to hang out in as well, along with legitimately good sushi. This place definitely fits the bill! The abundant roll options are both creative delicious. There 's a good drink menu too! The staff is always warm attentive without being pushy. I actually wanted to go there last Friday but I saw a sign that says that they are closed for renovations and their new name is Taku I really do hope it is under the same ownership that they keep the menu as expansive as it was. I will definitely be one of the first customers when it reopens in May! (See a pic of the sign on the door that I uploaded). Also, I hope you make your sign bigger because it really is hard to see from the road hahaha.
Went with a friend using a Groupon. We shared a vegetable tempura appetizer was delicious but smaller than expected. Wouldn't have been enough for more than two people. I posted pics of her beef negimaki (sp? dinner and my two rolls. Didn't try her negimaki but it was a big portion, worth the price based on the size, and the fact that she enjoyed it. My shrimp tempura roll was good, but wasn't too fond of their version of yellowtail jalapeno. There were a lot of pickled jalapenos in it so I couldn't taste the fish, just the pickle ness. Usually when I get a yellowtail jalapeno roll elsewhere there is a little bit of jalapeno with a lot of kick, without the pickle flavor.
Taku just opened. There was nobody in the place....service was Great! The owner sent us over 2 shots of delicious goodness. We had sexy roll, yazu avocado roll, and a soft shell crab roll...made to perfection. We had sashimi of striped bass, yellow tail and scallop (not live) all presented with style and grace... We had himachi belly that was like butter, it was better than toro. The toro I'm getting in the States has tendons. They cut it wrong, dont remove the tendons...sloppy and gross. I would spit it out...but not this dish that Taku makes! Get on the Taku bandwagon! TELL your friends! I will definitely go back! Sushi restaurant's are many, many are not good, but Taku keeps you coming back for more!!
