We stayed here overnight while walking in the Vanoise national park. The room was basic but completely adequate and the facilities very clean. Although not being able to speak French we were made very welcome. Lunch and dinner were both superb meals. The best we...had while in France! The village itself is so picturesque and very quiet once the day trippers go home.
Stopped by twice during a Christmas skiing break had great meals. Recommend the traditionals like tartiflette (but make sure you haven't eaten for a day before portions are big) but also the meat and fish dishes in sauces. Nice atmosphere and a quaint...location in the middle of this lovely village. Highly recommended.
The best restaurant by far in Bonneval-sur-Arc, Auberge d’Oul occupies an attractive building in the tiny central square. With just four tables downstairs and a few more upstairs, reservations are required, usually for 7:30 or 8 PM. The staff is equally small: one chef and...a friendly waitress. Since the chef leaves around 9:45, don’t expect to show up for a late meal. The food is terrific, plentiful, and reasonably priced. In addition to an a la carte menu, the 19 euro and 24 euro prix-fixe menus offer excellent quality and variety. Start the meal with a Rose-Pamplemousse, a tasty combination of rose wine and grapefruit syrup. After a hard day exploring the magnificent mountains, the mouth-watering aromas wafting from the kitchen offer a tantalising preview of what is to come. The quiche and salade de l’auberge make for delicious starters. For the main course, the beef with Bonneval blue cheese is delicious. The diot, a local sausage which is here served very lean. also should not be missed. It comes with two accompanying gratins – potatoes and local pasta, both fabulous. Stick with the cheesy local specialities—the duck as is so often the case is too dry. Desserts are delicious. Make sure to try the pear tarte-tatin but ask the waitress to skip the spray-can whipped cream. It comes with ice cream anyway. The faiselle farmer’s cheese with berries is also a good choice. A neighbouring table ordered the Savoyard speciality raclette for three and the range of dishes that arrived was remarkable: a huge quarter round of cheese, and large platters of cured meats, salad, and potatoes. The prix-fixe menus offer enough variety to eat here for several nights – there is no need to bother with the other local eateries. But, remember to make your reservations. In summary, Auberge d’Oul offers authentic Savoyard delicacies in all of their cheesy grandeur. Highly recommended.
Service rapide et chaleureux, l'agneau avec la polenta, c'était un délice. Nous n'hésiterons pas à revenir.
