We ordered Chicken Masala, meat massala with Dahl, shami kebab, and two cans of soda for less than £26, which was a good value. Unfortunately, my meat curry was too spicy for my liking and the meat was overcooked. My friend also wasn't impressed with her dish. We ended up leaving a lot of food on our plates. The service was quick and polite, the atmosphere was simple, and the bathrooms were clean and functional.
I have to agree with recent reviews, unfortunately this restaurant has never been considered fine dining, far from it. In the past, the lack of decor and finesse was made up for by great food at a reasonable price and reasonably friendly service. However, that is no longer the case. The food was mediocre, the restaurant desperately needs a deep clean, and the staff need to improve their customer service skills. We did not feel welcomed or appreciated as customers, so we will not be returning until there is a change in ownership. What a disappointment.
I continue to drop in when in the area to see if things have improved. They haven’t. I seriously wonder how this place can function and still apparently remain in conformance with hygiene standards.
I have reviewed this restaurant before and it received top marks from me. (2 years ago) But now I have to go along with recent remarks. I am aware of the cost of living crisis and energy price increases but they are pricing themselves out of the market. They were always cheap and cheerful Now they are more expensive than the top restaurants. As others have said it's filthy. I was waiting downstairs for my takeaway and looked around the place. I thought about leaving but the food came as I was standing up. Friday lunchtime and the place was empty it was always nearly full at that time. I had ordered 2 meat curries (basic sauce because it is beautiful) I got 2 vindaloo curries that were inedible and had to be thrown away. Some can eat that heat but we can't. So expensive curry wasted. It's the last visit from me and I expect the closed sign to go up soon.
OK, cakey fans, this is such a shame. I'd never normally give a 1-star review to any restaurant, but there were simply so many things wrong with this visit, it would be remiss of me to give it any other score. Ultimately, this is a venue that is long past its best. While it was once the shining jewel in the crown of Indian cuisine in Bradford, that crown has slipped. The place is grubby, there was no atmosphere (no music). The staff were at best apathetic to our existence. And those are possibly the BEST things about this visit. No really. The toilets were disgusting, the taps barely worked, the toilet barely flushes (the men’s toilets were out of order). I’ve rarely seen such a grubby set-up. So, onto the food. We were presented with 5 very stale papadums. I had to ask for more, which came out pretty greasy (not a great start). Fortunately, the chicken pakora was among the nicest I’ve ever had and the mango lassi was sensational, but that’s where it ended. The chicken in the main meals was really nice, but both mains were spicy and a little flavourless (and there was a bone in the chicken korma). But it gets worse. Meal over and we were leaving, and when we passed the kitchen, we could smell the REEK of cigarette smoke. This is not good. Really, REALLY not good. And afterwards, we’ve both been toilet-bound with very upset stomachs (and I can eat nearly anything). Overall, not one area of this visit was good. If the staff had been engaging I’d probably view it more favourably, but the toilets, the smoke, the apathy of the staff AND the stomach upset – all made this for a very poor experience. There are far better places to visit in Bradford. This place needs closing and a serious refurbishment, because there are way too many issues here to count. Very very poor! CS
