Had lunch here earlier in the year and was disappointed but decided to give it another shot. I wish I hadn't. The sandwiches were served on stale bread and the filling was minimal, it looked like it had been thrown together- which is probably why it took less than 5 minutes from ordering to table. We had sides of chips, which were burnt, dry and I very much doubt were had ever been a potato originally. £45 and we left most of it.
We visited from out of the area on the recommendation of friends. We were gobsmacked at the size of the car park and the 'garden centre ' on our arrival, it 's a huge retail outlet of shops within shops and I could probably say that the garden centre is now a small part of the retail enterprise. We arrived around 11.50am and were ready for a drink and some lunch, however the restaurant upstairs had no availability for over an hour, the queue for the cafe downstairs was huge! After a walk around and needing food and drink, we looked to see if there was anywhere we could get a quick bite to eat and had to settle for a bottle of water and a sandwich (from a poor selection) and ate in the car. What a disappointing visit, we won 't make the effort to return.
Have been a loyal customer since it opened. Today was not good. It used to be soft beef slices AND a side of super soft beef shoulder with yorkshire puddings, roasties and mash. TODAY small piece of beef which was ok in terms of tenderness. With small portion of mash and red cabbage. With minimal gravy. That's it. It was served in a smallish bowl. I feel cheated to be honest. Let's be clear taste wise it was pretty nice but NOTHING to how it used to be. Yet its the same price! 16 pounds. Missing roasties and yorkshire pudding and other veg! Honestly feel cheated. Not in a rush to come back now. And a table behind us made conversation with us after overhearing them say it was a little disappointing. They said its far off the mark from being a sunday dinner. There is an old saying..... if its not broken don't fix it! Too many restaurants do this. It needs to go back to how it used to be.
We visited on Sunday although it was very busy there was plenty of car parking spaces and we soon got parked up. There was so much to see and lovely Christmas displays for lots of Christmas inspiration. There is so much choice and nice having other shops inside the centre too. The fish were spectacular and was nice to be able to feed them for £1. We visited the cafe for lunch and was pleasantly surprised I had the roast dinner which was very tasty and very lean beef, my daughter had the sausage and mash and my husband had the homemade steak pie which was full of tasty lean beef. Although it is quite pricy we were all really happy with our choices. We also bought some tasty cakes to take home for tea! Thank you for a lovely visit we will be back soon.
