The East Garden - Breckland

My family and I only have experience of takeaway meals from East Garden. I would like to give a very good review but I am hoping the chef will read this and take note. That is why I am writing a review. The people are pleasant and the flavours are good. My problem is with the Sweet and Sour Chicken which has crisp fresh vegetables but the chicken has been microwaved so that it has the consistency of rubber. Unless you have very strong teeth you won't be able to eat it. What should be succulent is as tough as an old boot. This isn't a one off, it is always like this. It is such a shame.

My family and I decided to revisit this restaurant after a great experience 8 years ago, but sadly, this time was a nightmare. Firstly, the prices had nearly doubled, which was quite shocking. My partner and oldest child ordered from the menu, while myself and my other 3 daughters opted for the buffet. The lady in charge then rudely informed my wife that she could not eat from the buffet, so she decided not to. The food took over an hour to arrive, and it was evident that it had been reheated in a microwave. The prawn toast smelled fishy and everything seemed old and crusty. We decided to pay for only our drinks and starters, and when the bill came, she tried to charge us £73 for low-quality food. I refused to pay that much and gave her £60, which was still too much. As we tried to leave, she became rude and started shouting, refusing to let us go and even physically restraining my children. I have never experienced such awful behavior and have never seen someone treat their staff so poorly. I threatened to call the police on her for her actions. This restaurant is absolutely terrible, and I should have read the reviews before coming. Stay away from this place at all costs!

My partner and I decided to have a romantic dinner for just the two of us since our teenagers had already eaten. Unfortunately, we regretted our decision. The restaurant was extremely quiet, almost like a funeral. We had to speak in hushed tones to avoid standing out. It was also quite cold, and I was tempted to keep my coat on while waiting for our meal. The service was incredibly slow, making it impossible to get enough starters and mains in a reasonable amount of time. The portions were disappointingly small - we expected more than just one chicken satay and rib each. The mains were not enjoyable and the drinks were overpriced. After spending £73 on a meal for two and two drinks, we were left feeling unimpressed. We noticed that other couples were also complaining about the service and food quality. Overall, this was the worst dining experience we've had in a long time and we definitely would not return.

We stopped at this restaurant for lunch. Although the decor is not extravagant, the food was incredible and affordably priced. The service was outstanding. We definitely plan on returning.

Called in to East Garden Chinese Restaurant on our way home from holiday in Norfolk. So pleased to have found it. If it was not so far from Essex we would be going back again soon. We were only customers having lunch. We were so warmly greeted and waited on. Choice of dining room which looked recently refurbished with Chinese decor. Have recommended to any friends travelling to Norfolk and we shall return when we go on Holiday again. Best Lemon Chicken I have ever had and my husband loved the Chow Mein.
