There were a handful, if that, of what we presumed to be locals in the bar area but no one in the dining area. With ratings as good as we’d read about you’d have thought someone would be visiting for lunch. Specials of the day and menu backed up the source of the aromas. It was very heavy on the fried options and nothing imaginative. Sorry guys but first impressions count. Suffice to say we did not stay.
Called in for a pint, this pub is very very rare in today’s society. The decor is traditionally tasteful to the old school. Let’s put it another way no pomp and ceremony if you get my meaning. To the traditional pub connoisseur this pub is a must. The beer is excellent and the food being served smelt wonderful and plenty. Worth tracking down.
We found this pub after visiting the excellent water gardens at nearby Gooderstone. It is simply a real gem of a country pub. Real ale, real cooked food, real warm welcome, dog friendly. Proper home cooked pies with a real crust. Well worth seeking out!
We stopped by this charming pub on our way back from a nearby attraction. We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. Even though our old dog was in a pram, he was welcomed inside and got to meet the resident dog, Alice. The pub was set to close at 3:00, but the staff assured us we wouldn't be kicked out right at closing time. We made sure to leave by 3 out of respect. The staff and locals were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and were very knowledgeable about the pub's history. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area. The menu looked fantastic and my husband was already planning what he would order if we lived closer. They had a good selection of drinks and the pub was spotlessly clean throughout.
Adult family group enjoyed another properly home cooked meal. Good choice of puddings too made with care. Good Adnams beer on tap and wine too.
