First trip since Kovid back. still the same excellent value. the staff was friendly and helpful as usual. the honeycomb was one I had not tried before, it was very delicious. sandwiches, big scones with saw and jam, cake piece, teekanne that they. happy to fill in. 19.95 pfund for two.
I was disappointed with my ‘Olive Tree Breakfast’ this time. I had visited a number of times before the Pandemic and been very pleased with the food. Unfortunately, this time it wasn’t nearly as good. Although we visited as they opened at 9am, the mushrooms...were so overcooked that they were rubbery. The bacon was extremely salty, although perfectly cooked. The sausage was slightly overcooked but the fried egg was perfect , and so were the baked beans. Hopefully they were just having a bad day and this was a one-off.
I love going to the Olive Tree for their Eggs Benedict, my favourite while I'm there. Went a few weeks ago with my partner and we both were very disappointed. My Eggs Benedict were room temperature at best, sauce was cold and eggs were cold....My partner had a chicken and leek pie which was cold and a very small portion. The only dish that was somewhat warm were his chips. We tried to get the attention of a server but was never acknowledged. I emailed the restaurant stating my dissatisfaction and never received a reply.
I have given The Olive Tree 5 stars because the food is always delicious and plentiful, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The only downside is the steep slope leading down to the garden center, which can be challenging for customers with mobility issues. I struggled with it myself and believe many others may face the same difficulty. I believe a ramp should be made available for those with disabilities. Additionally, I find it puzzling that the café closes at 5 o'clock, as I feel it could benefit from staying open later in the evening. The garden center has clearly expanded and improved since its initial opening, and I commend the current owners for their hard work. It would be a shame if something as small as accessibility from the café to the garden center took away from the overall experience for customers.
