However, a quick Google search revealed that they do serve a decent Sauvignon Blanc. I ordered the soup and a mint soup with brown bloomer bread, which was hot and had a lovely texture and rich flavor—an absolute steal at just £2.99. My husband opted for the vegan burgers with a tomato flatbread and sweet potatoes. Since there was no vegan cheese available, I brought along some Violife mozzarella from home. He thoroughly enjoyed his burger with the BBQ topping and, after adding the cheese, declared it fantastic and gave it a big thumbs up. My flatbread was excellent, featuring a wonderful base and tomato sauce that exceeded what I've had at many Italian restaurants. With the addition of cheese, I was a very satisfied vegan. I do wish the Cookhouse Pub would be more specific about their vegan options, like the soups and flatbreads, and consider offering vegan cheese, as this could attract more customers, including those who are lactose intolerant. I also find it puzzling that they don't highlight any vegan-friendly wines, as many vegans may avoid wine altogether given the effort required to research it online.
We chose this restaurant because it was the only one available for a Saturday night reservation shortly before closing, but we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. I ordered the sloppy joe burger, which was flavorful and served with chips, although I wish it had been a bit larger. I was excited to try the chocolate cake for dessert, but unfortunately, they had run out! Overall, it was an affordable and cheerful dining experience. We started with a flatbread topped with olive and hummus, and it was absolutely delicious. For our main courses, we had the vegan burger and the vegetarian version of pigs in blankets. Both were fantastic and great value for the price.
