Additionally, one of the main courses arrived cold and had to be sent back. Two of the mains were not even ordered, and despite everyone else finishing their meals, the missing mains were never brought out. The staff were friendly, but there were too many mistakes for us to overlook. I would not recommend this restaurant unless they make significant improvements to their service in Cromer. We chose not to leave a tip given the numerous errors we encountered during our visit.
First male waiter was pleasant, knowledgeable and generally helpful. The female 'boss ' maitre d was grumpy, scruffy (ketchup down her shirt! and couldn 't care less about us. She delivered our shared starter but didn 't provide the promised two plates. She also delivered our main courses but both didn 't notice that we had no cutlery (I 'robbed ' some from another table after waiting too long nor did she ever return with the requested ketchup. We have driven past Chophouse 1,000 's of times over the years and never see it full or, many times, even occupied and I wondered why now we know! We won 't be returning!
The restaurant is lovely, and has friendly service along with a variety of draft beers. The steak was a little tough, but it could have been just an unfortunate experience on my part.
Visited on 12/01: We stayed at the hotel next door and decided to have dinner at this restaurant on the night of our arrival. Despite being warned to book ahead due to its popularity, there were plenty of available tables and the place was surprisingly quiet. The set menu advertised three courses for £25, but upon arriving at the restaurant, we were informed it was actually £26, which was a bit misleading. The options on the set menu were disappointing, so we opted for items from the main menu instead. The portion sizes were generous, but the presentation was better than the taste. The burgers seemed to contain a whole chicken or cow, and the wings were tasty but expensive at over £8 for just three. The chips were average and some were undercooked, while the sauces and coleslaw had developed a film from being left under heating lamps. Overall, the food was below average, with the exception of the wings. The service was mediocre, and there was a strange smell towards the end of the meal. In summary, the experience and taste were just okay. Given the overall experience, I would not choose to dine here again.
Booked this for a belated birthday meal with my daughter. Booked on first table so had a 5.00pm dining slot with 50% off food. Restaurant was empty when we arrived and almost empty on leaving. Had fish chips, side of onion rings, gin cheesecake cocktails. Good service, lovely food. Will be back.
