We had an amazing meal at Shalom Japan. From the moment we arrived we were treated well by all staff. Being our first visit, our waiter walked us through the entire menu, answers all of our questions and gave us some recommendations, most of which we took. We had duck wings, okonomiyaki with pastrami and matzo ball soup ramen, and the sweet potato cheesecake for dessert, and didn’t leave a scrape on the plates. Each dish was unique and a true fusion of Japanese and Jewish cuisine. Blown away and … – show
Such a unique fusion we had to try it. Our favorite was the teriyaki duck wings, it fell off the bone and the sauce was amazing. Matzo ball ramen was flavorful. The wagyu pastrami sando was disappointing, nothing wagyu about it, it was just a regular dry pastrami. Love the concept, but some items worked and some didn't.
Food was uninspired to say the least. The Pastrami sandwich was the most plain dry bread with the most bland meat, worth $5 but costs over $20. The ramen was way too salty, for some reason there is a corn dish appetizer which doesn't fit the theme, there is a dish called Jew Egg” which sounds as if they're trying to pun Borat. The manager was incredibly rude. Would never dine here again, this was the worst place I've eaten in NYC and I've eaten at terrible places in the city.
