Because this style is %100 build your own it's a little difficult on your first or second time. I also have found the staff hit or miss when it comes to knowledge about your options. I will definitely return in hopes they get better.I would like to mention that I've been there 3 times and twice they were out of tuna...luckily I really like salmon.
Kona Poke just opened after my trip to Hawaii. Have to say the Poke here was better than I had in Hawaii. Great selection, reasonable price and the flavor and quality of the food is unbelievable.
I've had many different items from here since it first opened. The staff are super friendly and awesome, no complaints there for sure. I've pretty much tried all the different protein and base combinations - except the vegan mix. The food is fresh and well prepared. The favourites such as brown rice, salmon and spicy mix do run out so get there early. There are a variety of toppings such as sesame seeds, masago, furikake, onion, wasabi etc with crab and avocado being an add on for an extra price. My biggest issue though is the very small portions (compared to other Poke places in Calgary, both in the downtown core and Centre Street). For the price you pay (upwards of 20 dollars) for a bowl, you'd expect something a little bit more. Perhaps the owners/mgmt can reflect on this.Otherwise, a good lunch to have and fun atmosphere to visit.
After waiting in a long lineup for about 20 minutes, I ordered the salmon & ahi tuna combo bowl and had to wait for a fresh batch of sushi rice to come out. The fixings were a good selection and the staff were friendly. When I got to my desk and opened the bowl, the salmon, tuna and the fixings were tasty, but the rice, which was very, very hard, made the whole meal tough to get through. I've had a poke bowl previously at another place and it made this experience very disappointing.
Oh my goodness! The second location of Kona Poke is now open! It is situated on the south side of the street in a newly constructed building.
