Stone Bowl Korean Cuisine - Calgary

We were looking for an affordable, interesting fast food alternative place near the Arts District, and decided to check this place out. We were disappointed by a few things. The decor is a bit Jekyll and Hyde - the view on one side is okay, but the view towards the kitchen was very unappealing - we felt we were eating in their stockroom. Although the food was tasty enough, it was a bit plain - white rice with no sauce, soy or otherwise, no garnish, no dollop of kimchee or anything (see the picture). Service was average, but the server missed out on tempting us with a drink, and she seemed to spend a lot of time with what seemed like her family or friends that were dining there. The menu is odd, with little explanation of what you're getting for the money. The famous "stone bowl" is not mentioned on the menu, and we didn't see one anywhere.

Went here today with a friend. I had the spicy pork. It was tasty and the portions were good. It was hot inside which will be good in the winter months. If I'm ever downtown again I'll definitely head back.

This is one of my favorite places to have a great meal in Calgary. The food is really exquisite, the staff is friendly and helpful. Take your chance, you'll like it.

Had lunch here, place a little busy. I ordered a beef bibimbap and it was served nicely in a hot stone bowl. My husband had the spicy chicken, but the spicy sauce was in a dispenser so you will be the one to mix it. My beef looked dry but tasted good. The soup I had was spicy beef and that I like as it was really steaming hot. Just a little disorganized. Not too sure if it was self service or it will be serve for dine in, but the staff was nice, they brought the food and they got us some cutleries when my husband stood to get some in the service station.
