I would much rather give my money to a place like Pembertons than Lord Bezos and his attempts at speedrunning human rights exploits. For the “big haul” grocery trips, I would likely go somewhere else. If you’re trying to grab a few things for a weeknight dinner, a bottle of wine and some snacks, and some sandwiches for tomorrows beach trip then Pembies is the place.
Stopped in for a quick breakfast with my wife. We split an apple turnover and blueberry muffin and we each had coffee. Both pastries were good and the coffee was excellent. We started out sitting inside, but later discovered and moved out to the back veranda to finish our coffee.
I’m a regular at this family-owned grocery store in the neighborhood for their quality produce. However, I noticed that the staff has a high turnover rate and the service, especially at the checkout, has been a hit and miss. Some of the staff who is up for chatting seem to have real hardships in their lives. While I support Pamby’s hiring strategy focusing on offering equal opportunities, I hope that the appropriate onboarding and customer service training can be provided to improve customer experience. Right now, I personally feel that there is a gap in satisfaction between staff interaction and all other aspects of the shopping at Pamby.
I’m so thrilled to have discovered this market during a drive one evening. Although I grew up in Cambridge (now living in NY), I don’t often explore this area of the city. The market brings back memories of the charming stores I’ve visited in the Berkshires. The atmosphere is relaxed, with friendly service and high-quality products. There was a lot to explore in every department, and the nursery section is absolutely lovely. There is a parking lot available, but we opted to park on the street. Additionally, there are benches and small tables scattered throughout the outdoor area. I can’t wait for my next trip to Cambridge, and I’ll definitely make this one of my first stops.
I received a very warm welcome, which has been quite rare during my visits here over the past few months for groceries and sandwiches. I think his name was Adian. He had a wonderful smile! It really made a difference, and the sandwich was delicious as always.
