Aidé and her daughters, Mariana and Luciana are the most gracious hosts. You are so helpful in organizing tours, taxis, night buses, etc. In addition to their generosity, they also offer the best food and restaurant ambience in the city. The terrace overlooking the Plaza de Armas was a popular meeting place for us, but we also loved the cozy atmosphere of the dining room. I would return to Perú to visit Aidé and stay at home!
They offer homemade pizza in two different sizes. The pizza is served on a wooden plate and tastes very good! The staff is very friendly.
We had the veggie pizza and I believed this would be a safe choice since the vegetables would be baked. The pizza came warm (not hot) and the cheese and crust had not browned so I have concerns the veggies may not have been sterilized by heat. The indoor seating area smelled like fresh paint so we sat on the porch overlooking the road. The road was quite noisy and smelled of car exhaust. We were the only patrons in the restaurant.
This place, right off the plaza, has pretty good, not great, thin crust pizza by Peru standards. It has a limited menu. Not much other than pizza for dinner. Can sit on outside balcony above a noisy street. Friendly service.
Initially it is a bit tricky to get into cafe de rat as the door downstairs is locked. You have to knock/ring and wait for someone to come and open up, not ideal and not very inviting. The ambience is lively, although there was some terrible 90s bakalao music playing whilst we were there, which didn't help. We had a large pizza to share, approx 40 PEN, it was fine, although the base was pre prepared and tasted a bit cardboard. The toppings were good and the service was friendly enough. Overall an average experience.
