Just to correct the fanciful response. I was there at 11:30, there was *one* other customer in the entire place, not a single seat taken inside. One hopes that isn 't the lunchtime rush Nobody circumvented the take out window, he *assumed* I wanted take out. I worked as a waiter for years. I don 't do this lightly.
On a work trip in Castine, we made this our every day stop... Warm attentions and I must congratulate the both the gentleman that runs the place and mostly the chef. She made the most delicious muffins and cinnamon rolls. Everything was expertly made. Thanks a million!
I had haddock fish and chips which was greasy and tasteless. Haddock is the only fish I like so this was a huge disappointment for me. My friend had fried shrimp and said it was okay. Place was empty when we arrived but for a man and woman chatting just inside the door. We noted there were only very long tables and each had a reserved sign on them, so we thought the place had been rented for a private party. We could hear someone banging around in the kitchen area but no one acknowledged us as we waited for a good 10 minutes while the man and woman talked. Finally, the woman turned to us and apologized for keeping us waiting, then she left. The man just stood there looking at us until I asked if the place was closed for a private party or if we could sit down for a meal. He got a couple of menus and seated us at the end of one of the long tables. We waited another good 10 15 minutes before he came to take our order. He was not friendly or welcoming at all. After we 'd finished eating, we waited a long time for our bill which never came so we got up and walked toward the door to get attention. When he presented the bill, he had charged us for two drinks we didn 't get and had to rectify the bill. When we paid, there was no thank you, come again, or any kind of gratitude at all. I was a bit upset with my friend for giving the bloke a 20% undeserved tip! I 'm usually a huge tipper, even when service is just okay, but this guy truly deserved a penny, which in the old days said your service is terrible. On the plus side, the music was fun 40 's big band and jazz. Interior was nothing to write home about. The place seemed dirty and we had a fly for a dinner companion. That was the only meal we ate in a restaurant during our week long stay in Maine and it was truly memorable in all the wrong ways. And to the owner whose responses to people 's poor reviews on his establishment are all defensive rather than apologetic, shame on you. All of the 1 and 2 star reviews I 've read have been gracious despite less than optimal experiences. As you mentioned in one of your responses, it 's a resort town so prices are higher. When people who are on vacation pay those prices, they expect excellent friendly service and good food. I 'm truly astounded at the disparity in reviews it seems to be either 5 stars or 1 2 with little in between. Something 's wrong with this picture. They must be very good friends or relatives of the owners to give 5 star reviews. Or maybe local folks just get treated with more respect and better food than visitors. It 's truly a shame.
Very lovely mom pap good coffee nice fresh pastries keep up the good job.
Interesting cafe style restaurant with good seafood and sandwich choices. Lobster roll was excellent, loaded with lobster which was dressed with homemade mayo. Turkey ham club was very tasty, also with homemade mayo, and a good portion of smoked bacon. Shared tables inside the restaurant part of a store. Hawaii themed decor, and pink Hawaiian sea salt as the condiment. Great lunch choice. Served by the owner who was very chatty.
