There are thousands of great restaurants in Peru. Many famous around the world and attractive tourists from all over the world. El Morro in my birthplace Chorrillos is probably none of them. However, it should probably be apart from the fact that its charm comes from tiny and without masses. Of course, the food is fantastic and the personalized service gives him the magic touch I always need in restaurants. The owner is there to observe the details of the operations, but also always talk to you, even sit down to eat with the customers. Many of them are his friends. So it's like it's coming to his house at lunch or dinner. The latest dish: causa de pallares is spectacular. Warm plate so not expect that the cold plate appetizers are usually causas. Implicit is her chap. So close to the beauty of the Chorrillos Ocean, you can easily walk to the picturesque and see the Pacific in its full glory and the fishing boats invite you to take a ride off the coast. I wanted to keep El Morro secret, but I need to share it with the world because it's just wonderful.
In the Guide Michelin this would be a two fork in red, maybe with a star. This is a simple, and I mean simple, restaurant near the picturesquecon (seafront cliff promenade) in Chorrillos. It is small (10 tables) with a painted wood stick decor in a small street only by Huaylas (Defensor del morro). Same block as Puntarenas. It serves only lunch (11 5.30) and can be cool in winter (only wood and plastic roof cover). There's a big TV in a wall. Typical for restaurants in Lima in front of the boom and the Gaston Gourmet explosion. And so typical for these days the experience is a joy. Staff are friendly and proud of their kitchen. Endless patients explain everything and with good recommendations. The core of the menu is fish and shells, but the limited meat options are also good. The causa is served warm. You must have 8 or so variations, some with papillaries (dried beans), pumpkin and other ingredients instead of just potato. We tried Paillares con mariscos. Exquisite and in taste worthy of Lima's tops. Meat tequenos was another hit. For the main course we had 4 different fish dishes, another cause, a salad, a lomo con salsa pimienta and arroz con mariscos. All very good was the betrayal excellent. Deserts were mixed; good pancakes with Manjar (hard to fail), ok tres leches and bad alfajores (the cookie was not good). S./471 for 8 persons plus tip. We didn't have all drinks and we shared two appetizers and two deserts, so I would add something if you expect more portions to eat generously. We'd go back. A very beautiful change from the smarter and more commercial places in Miraflores and San Isidro, ideal for a relaxed meal with friends. Try at least one Causa. It makes sense as his not big.
This is a owner managed, small and brilliant seafood restaurant in Chorrillos. Nothing to fantasies in his appearance and furniture, but surprisingly in his delicacies and the sophistication of food. No tourists, only locals. A discovery. Ask for the ceviche sol y sombra and for the causa de pallares
