I’ve never understood the success of Birleys. Every few years I give it a shot and it’s just so poorly run. The management need to visit any NYC deli/bodega, or perhaps Vita Mojo locally, to find two much better models for how to run a takeout food business. This morning at 10am I was one of two people waiting for a bagel sandwich (only one type of bagel is available) and it took eight minutes to get my order. Staff seemed stressed despite the light crowds and a high staff-to-customer ratio, and don’t seem to understand very well requests from the customer or each other. The menu boards do not list the available ingredients. My order was wrong initially and then I was overcharged at the till because the cashier couldn’t read the handwriting on the order slip. The resulting food was decent but process revision and retraining are badly needed here.
After exiting St Paul's Cathedral we found Birley Sandwiches. We both had soups which were fantastic. Chicken Suckutash and I had spicy corn. Both excellent
This hidden gem is a great value in the heart of London. The cooked sausage bacon breakfast sandwich is delicious and only costs about £4.00 each. The staff could be a bit more enthusiastic and there was confusion about how to order and pay at first, but the food is very tasty and well-priced.
Absolutely terrible and should be avoided at all costs. The staff only seem interested in arguing with customers and giving out minimal portions of food. It's not a pleasant experience to constantly hear someone yelling "FRESH SANDWICHES" every 20 seconds. If you choose to spend your money here, you're making a foolish decision.
