I had a shrimp pasta with marinara....very yummy. Disappointed there was no garlic bread but I don't need the carbs anyway. Atmosphere was relaxing with a hint of elegance. Oh and I had a Long Island Ice Tea that was better than ones I've had from other bars....it wasn't watered down and had a nice kick to it.
After completing our drive from Independence, MO to Coffeyville, KS, it was time to get some lunch. We decided to eat lunch in the historic building (1872) housing the Tavern on the Plaza. My wife had a grilled Reuben with a salad, a I had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes. Both of our meals were delicious. Service was excellent.
I have nothing but great things to say about this place. Loved how historical this place was!! If your into history make sure to read the back of menu. The menu was huge with TONS of great options. Everything we ordered tasted absolutely delicious and I would HIGHLY recommend the fried mushrooms. Those were the best we have ever had. And if your a drinker they have tons of liquor options and wine.
Pros: The chips and salsa were great, freshly fried blue corn and flour tortillas with chipotle salsa. Cold beer, in a frosted mug. The establishment itself was very interesting, a blast from the past with the history of the building on the back of the menu. The prices were fair. Cons: Was unable to sit at the bar because the only server, Destiny, was underage . After ordering a beer, I felt very rushed to order food and received stuffy and insincere service. I was very polite, and tipped 25%. I would have tipped more had the service been better. I more than likely won 't return to this establishment.
I've been here twice and it was terrible. First time we had horrible service. The waitress messed up every order we had. Second time the food was awful. Over cooked chicken and spoiled cottage cheese. There's a reason seating is always available. Go next door. Update: went back without choice with friends. Walmart steaks at ridiculous prices. 29 dollars for a 12 oz ribeye. They claim to be choice cut black Angus. I promise a Walmart steak is comparable. I absolutely will never go again.
