Our second time at Restaurante Marisqueira A Gare in two years and again the same high quality and fresh seafood one expects from a known restaurant. A Portuguese delight are Percebes (barnacles). Knowing how hard it is to harvest them of the rocks and cliffs and what the prices are the fishermen charge restaurants for it, A Gare has a very good deal. If you never had them in your life, the owners even take some out and let you try them for free. It is hard to recommend a dish, all are very tasty. We had percebes, clams and prawns, coming with a delicious bread and a home made style garlic sauce. The wine menu is excellent, the service friendly and competent. (As we found out, one of the owners is a former sailor and a passionate fishermen himself, a good reason to be sure that he knows what he serves). Restaurant A Gare is highly recommendable in Leiria.
Here 's the thing: seafood is supposed to be more expensive than your average meal. However, this restaurant has the (bad) habit of charging you higher prices than other (similar) places in Leiria perhaps to compensate the fact that it 's close to empty most of the time. While the quality of the seafood is ok, when the bill comes at the end you can 't help but feel you 're paying too much for too little. Again, nothing terribly wrong with this place, however I tend to go there on a last resort when I want to have some seafood in Leiria.
Fomos comer à marisqueira gare com um casal amigo, já frequentadores do espaço. Ambiente extremamente acolhedor, profissionais exemplares, extremamente atenciosos. A comida não fica atrás. Estava tudo ótimo, desde as amêijoas, passando pelo camarão e pica pau e terminado na bela açorda para m a melhor que comi.
Marisco muito fresco é muito bem confecionado. O ambiente é bastante familiar. Destaco as gambás cozidas que realmente são divinais.
