Worse than the pasty was the service from the older woman at the counter, it was absolutely disgusting. She was rude and sarcastic, not to mention the eye rolls when I asked which pasties they had and whether they were large or medium. Not sure whether she reserves her bad attitude for 'emmets ' or if the locals get it aswell. Either way, she should have a word with herself and get a serious attitude adjustment.
Horrific service. Went in yesterday and sat down for a meal. Ordered 2 pasties for just under £20. They said no salad today with the pasties but still had to charge full price. No apology. Asked if they did a tea for 2. They said no only pots for one. I said ok 2 pots for one. They brought the tea in one pot. And 2 cups. I asked do I have another pot coming. She said no as I asked for tea for 2 so she gave me a pot for 2!!! No explanation. Charged for 2 pots of tea anyway. Asked to use the loo and she said it’s at the end there. Door was locked so assumed someone was in there. Door was locked so, waited 5 mins and no one came out. Went back to the lady at the counter who’d been sat there looking fat me waiting, with no customers to serve ever since I asked here about the toilet and she said. ‘Yeah you need a key’. No intention of giving it to me. Eventually got in the loo. Then was asked by aunty to grab a few pasties for lunch the next day. Reluctantly I went in to by them. £16 for 3 pasties and My 5 year old daughter was desperate for the toilet. Asked if she could use it and another lady today said sorry we have no toilet. I replied, we used it yesterday. She said we have no public toilet. I said I just spent £16 and are customers not just public. She said we needed to walk to the other end of town and use the public loos. Be warned.
Reading the reviews we must have gone on a bad day, they were awful the pastry was hard and tasteless and the filling was just on the bottom and consisted of undercooked onions and what tasted like small amounts of boiled beef, needed a magnifying glass to find the potato and swede. Fortunately we found beautiful pasties in Biddeford and Bude on other days.
After leaving a 2 star review some years ago, I decided to visit Pengenna again to see if things had improved. I bought a traditional steak pasty (as usual and, remarkably, it was even worse than last time! What very little meat I could find, I wouldn't have fed to my dog it was nothing more than fat and gristle. The rest of the pasty was packed full of potato very little onion and no swede. Any attempt to season this bland offering would likely have been a lost cause but none had been made, regardless. Pengenna are exploiting the great tradition of the Cornish Pasty and serving up rubbish. If this is the best us Cornish can offer (and I KNOW it's not! , then we may as well open our doors to Greggs!
I am Cornish through through though I live up country naturally I miss many things about Cornwall, including my favourite The Pasty. I hadn 't tried Pengellas pasties before and to be honest I wont be buying from there again. The pastry was rock hard and so thick I could barely get through it and who the heck puts the crimping on the top??? Lets be honest, simply piling on the salt and pepper doesn 't make a pasty tastier it just makes it salty!! Nope I wont be back as I prefer a proper pasty with proper meat and veg.
