Vineyard L'Orpailleur - Cowansville

This little gem is nestled up against producing grape vines, and on the outdoor plaza, you can imagine you're dining in France or Italy...which is all to the good, since we've never done that....The food is quite good---at least the pork dishes we've had over the last few years; the service is VERY friendly and helpful, though a bit slow at times. The wine---while not Chateau Lafitte-Rothschilde ('48) (sp.?) is also most enjoyable, and it doesn't cost $18,000 a bottle...or whatever Chateau L.-R is now going for.A hint...try to hit them on a weekday, and during off-hours, and do call ahead for reservations...to be sure they aren't "locked up" for a wedding reception...whatever.If you insist on a numerical quotient---I'd give them an 8.5...or maybe even a 9 out of 10...the latter with a strong tailwind.

Beautiful selection of wines to satisfy all tastes. the reception is very friendly, the presentation of the bottles is well made, and the wine is frankly good and affordable. only regret, not having been able to taste the bubbles because as elsewhere, these bottles are not open for tasting.

Very beautiful vineyards, very nice welcome, guided visit possibility, very good variety of wine, red, white, rosé, mousseux, ice wine, quality restaurant on the site, reception room.

The food and wine were average at best, but the service was terrible. Our family of four spent $200 for a meal that included tough duck and unpleasant wine.

The restaurant still has an impressive set-up with a good selection of red wines and new specialties. However, there was a bit of disappointment when it took an hour to receive a sausage dinner with only two customers present. Despite this issue, it is still a place worth visiting.
