It is usually said: the closer the water, the worse the food. This is definitely not true in this case. They not only sit here on the first floor behind panoramic windows directly on the lively Elbe. Even what comes before a plate can be seen. Fresh salads, delicious Northern crabs, crunchy potatoes. North German standards well made and well presented by a very competent and friendly team. We felt comfortable. What could be done better? Maybe some seasonal dishes? Maybe some fresh fish like sole or turbot? A higher card could also bring another audience. This view with a more ambitious map that it is!
It was a nice afternoon in Cuxhaven. After visiting the ball beacon we came across this restaurant on Dyke. The place was busy and offers seating outside. We decided to sit outside and enjoy a little lunch and beer. After a few minutes, a waitress explained in an unpleasant tone that her colleague was responsible for our table. After a few minutes a waiter came out and was ready to take our order. We didn't even have menus! He took a few menus from a nearby table where people were sitting, they gave us and drove inside. He never returned! After about 15 minutes wait and watch the unfriendly waitress run around like they did every one a favor we left.
My wife and I ate here on the recommendation of our hotel as the best food in the area and we were not disappointed. The Krabben (tiny shrimp soup was perfectly seasoned with a good depth of flavor and my wife's sesame crusted goat cheese was very good, although we think it was actually cream cheese. We both had different fish dishes that was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Mine had skin on that was so crispy and delicate I thought it was a batter. I could dispense with the balsamic drizzle in favor of something a little more modern, perhaps a pesto oil around the lip, but that is being pretty particular. The restaurant itself is in a great location at the top of the dyke with views of the beach and sunset, nicely decorated with wood tables and placemats as a pleasant alternative to the typical white tablecloth. The atmosphere was classy without being stuff. So what were the flaws? There were only three easily correctible. 1. The waitress seemed a little uncomfortable that we wanted to order an appetizer and have that before we ordered our main dish. (We commonly do that as we may change our mind on our main, depending on the size and quality of the appetizer. It is also a more relaxing way to enjoy dinner out. 2. The waitress was unable to explain what the fish varieties are. Now I don't expect english translation, but you should at least be able to explain this is a flat fish, this is a thick, firm fish similar to... The waitress was also a little unfamiliar with the wines. 3. The restaurant was open till 10 yet we were asked to place our dinner order and it was only 8:15 or 8:20. I think each of the above three issues could easily be resolved with a little guidance and training. None was a major issue, just little flaws in an otherwise near perfect meal and dining experience.
A restaurant on the North Sea coast, here we ate the best sausages in Germany. From here there is a very nice view of the sea, and there is a parking lot nearby.
