Saw some of the reviews but paid them no mind. Thought to myself how bad could these cupcakes possibly be? How can one not get something so simple as a cupcake right? Well... I was wrong. First of all there was nobody in this shop when we came in and they had very limited flavors to begin with. We went with some CAKE BALLS and the STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE and the WEDDING CAKE. Cake balls aka cake pops were ok. Nothing spectacular. Really dense compared to other cake balls I've had. Strawberry shortcake cupcake was ridiculously sweet. The frosting to cake ratio was a joke. The cupcake is 75% frosting and 25% cake. And to make matters worse the cake portion was pretty dry. Wedding cake wasn't any better. Again, 75% frosting 25% cake. Was just as sweet as the other one, cake part was also dry. Took one bite and tossed the rest out. Cake balls ran about $2 and cupcakes were $3.50.... Waste of money. Won't be returning
After leaving work very early on a Friday, beautiful day might I add, I decided to spend some time perusing around Cypress. I ran into newly opened Gigi 's. The dessert fiend in me squealed. That skinny heifer in my head said, girl you better go to that LA Fitness across the street!!!! But the Chunky Monkey I am wants to sample, rate, and compare every cupcake in the city! If you look at my pics, you can guess who wins more often. It was a super duper nice and knowledgeable lady, Ellen, working the counter. Every cupcake I inquired about, she knew instant full details regarding it. I let her know it was my first time and wondered what the best sellers are. Her first choice (what I chose actually, was wedding cake). They had a sample of strawberry shortcake on the counter. When I tasted it, it was so moist and delicate. It made me super excited to taste my selection. She told me how best the cupcakes travel, but I gave her that girl please face and stated this cupcake wasn 't making it that far. I enjoyed it on one of their 2 tables outside (no place to sit inside sadly). The cupcake was really good, loads of icing (borderline too much for my taste) but I 'm sad to say it wasn 't as moist and delicate as my strawberry bite. I was a bit disappointed but like I stated, it was indeed delicious. $3.25/p or $36 for a dozen. They could also be a bit bigger in my opinion too...just a smidgen for the price tag. The store was never packed but the traffic was continuous in and outs. Considering the time, this place is undoubtedly popular. I 'll be back Gigi...rest assured! It was so many good varieties, I 'm excited to try that salted caramel. But the CM only gets one cuppy cake at a time.
Hard. Dry. Stale. Flavorless. I wish I could get my $20 back. The pink carry out bag is cute; hence, my two star rating.
My review of Gigi's is consistent with those filed by many other folks in terms of personal experience. I've found Gigi's cupcakes typically stale, salty and excessively sugary. Hence, I do not feel their cupcakes are of premium quality and one would do better buying cupcakes from H-E-B; just saying....
My team and I have enjoyed Gigi's for the past year. The cupcakes are amazing. I love that the menu changes with the season. I'm part of their rewards program, which I wish was managed better. I get free offers through my email, but local store will not honor them because it's not connected to my phone#. Another customer behind me had the same issue. I sent a complaint to the corporate email but no response. As you can see, it hasn't stopped me from going.
