Just popped in for a quick meal and beer and was so impressed with everything. Great home cooked food and prompt service.
We were staying in one of this hotel’s lovely cottages and as we always do after a long jouney had booked to eat in the restaurant on the night of our arrival. After this one meal we booked to eat for another 3 nights of our stay. All staff fully masked, sanitiser and Track and Trace in place. Tables well spaced apart. We felt safe and comfortable.I think it would be fair to say that The Balmoral serves a pub grub type of cuisine and does it very well indeed.Over our 4 nights we sampled lasagne, a huge cheese burger, roast beef, roast pork and a chilli con carne. All were just delicious, portions were generous, and good value.Desserts of cheesecake, ice cream and an outstanding sticky toffee pudding were a perfect way to end the meals. Average bill with a drink each was £18 per head, outstanding value.Mention must be made of the staff who in addition to serving in the restaurant had the outside bar to look after and really worked hard to keep a good service going. They were very helpful and pleasant, both at dinner and breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. This was our second visit to The Balmoral and look forward to returning again.
The rear garden is very attractive. The stall were fine but showed no interest in whether our food was of an acceptable standard. The helpings are large. The fish and chips were apparently fine. The lamb tagine wasn't. I didn't expect it to have been made in a tagine but I reasonably expected it to have been made in the style of a tagine and with the essential tagine ingredients. It wasn't. It was bland, as in totally. For £10.95 a seriously poor meal.
I often go here with family or friends, the atmosphere is lovely, friendly staff, fantastic food, especially the steaks, all at very reasonable prices. all measures taken for covid which is very reassuring
