Upon my arrival around 12:30, I ordered a beer for breakfast. The new bartender told me that she needed to change the keg. Once the beer arrived, I noticed a strong bleach smell in the bar, but I assumed they were cleaning the floors. However, when I tasted the beer, I was disgusted. It tasted like washing up liquid, with a strong smell of bleach coming from the glass. The bartender was confused and admitted she had no idea where the smell was coming from, but agreed that my beer smelled of bleach. She called her manager who investigated and flushed out the line properly. Although the bartender showed concern, I received no explanation about the incident and was only offered a refund and a different beer after I had to clean out my throat in the restroom. There was no acknowledgment of the fact that I had ingested a potentially harmful substance, and it seemed like they were more focused on damage control than my well-being. Disappointed and angry, I left the pub and will not be returning.
Visited here a few times with family that we visit in Ealing. Now called the old hat,Flynn’s is a lovely lovely pub. Welcoming atmosphere. Decent smoking area with seating. Has a good selection of tonic for your gin (the wife is fussy). Haven’t eaten here but uncle Alan says it’s fantastic.
I've visited Flynns on and off for quite a few years now. More off than on as the majority of staff are not very welcoming to be honest, it's like it hurts to crack a smile for them! Unless you're Irish (which is quite evident as Irish customers are the ones who seem to get service with a genuine smile). I've visited several times in recent months for one reason or another. Chloe is always charming but the others, as I said, are not very friendly. I've even bought staff a drink here and there hoping it might cheer them up but hey ho; they said thanks but still no warmth! The place has been done up recently and I think it looks really good. It's been renamed The Old Hat which I understand was what is was called back in the 1870s, so the place has some history. I've had a meal here a few times and have been fairly satisfied. The music in the evenings is good and most recently when I visited there was a live band that seemed to take hours setting up but once they started playing around 10.30pm (Saturday 3rd February 2018) they had loads of people up and dancing. I thought they were very good I'm no music expert but I know what sounds good and I enjoyed every tune they belted out as did most everyone present by the look of it. I would also mention here that the ashtrays in the beer garden didn't seem to have been emptied for the whole evening when I was here most recently. Not sure why as there was a lot of people out in the beer garden smoking all evening glasses were littered over all surfaces so it seems the staff just forget there's even a beer garden outside. Ashtrays were literally overflowing onto the tables as no one had been emptying them all evening, really quite disgusting. The toilets seemed to be in a good condition during the evening which is definitely a plus point compared to some pubs. I would really expect the bar staff to cheer up and be polite and friendly to EVERY customer rather than just nice to their Irish regulars it might encourage people to have a better time and write some nicer reviews about the place. Even though the place looks good and the music and live bands are enjoyable; the service without a smile definitely loses the place 2 stars. I would really hope things improve as this is walking distance from home for me and I'd be much happier spending my money here if I actually felt welcome.
We order drinks at the bar and that was a mistake as after we couldn't find clean table.... All the tables are so dirty you can stick to them and the staff don't care to clean, saying that I don't think they care about anything. After that I didn't like to try the food as I could imagine how they do the preps. Wine was worm and overprice. Won't be coming back
It's not often I write a review, in fact I can probably count the reviews I've wrote on 1 hand. This place however is on the bottom of my list. The bar woman said there was no ale. What kind of pub doesn't have ale? We thought we were playing it safe ordering fish and chips from the minimalist menu. I don't mind a minimalist menu, but if you do one, you have to make sure the food is on point. This wasn't. Over cooked fish, cold chips. Won't be coming back!
