La Tostano - Elizabeth

There are several Cuban restaurants in Elizabeth. Mainly located on Elizabeth Ave. La Tostano is a new one recently opened that sets itself apart from the rest. Specializing in Cuban-style pizza, La Tostano opened its doors a few months ago. Cuban-style pizza refers to a type of deep-dish pizza, where the focus is more on the dough, sauce, and cheese rather than the toppings and typically eaten with knife and fork. La Tostano offers a variety of pizza styles, as well as other Cuban street-food staples such as Cuban sandwiches, medianoches, croquettes, empanadas, and more. Extremely affordable, and personal pizzas are 9' and range from $4-7 depending on toppings. I went with the house special, which is a cuban sandwich on a pizza (ham, pernil, mustard, pickles, cheese).

This is a totally awesome neighborhood spot with THE BEST Cuban sandwich that I have ever had and I have had a lot of them over the past 30 years. Everything is very authentic and very fresh. The bread comes from a local bakery and is fresh every day. The personal pizzas are very varied and I will try them next time. Just wished I live closer and could stop in more often

Staff is extremely friendly courteous. Very good Cuban sandwich, love that it was made fresh to order. The pizza was good as well the desserts were my favorite. I'm very particular with flans because I'm always comparing them to mine. And this one is very good, along with the tres leches. We will be returning often.

We decided to give Ravello's a try following reviews on TA and elsewhere. Pleased we did! Very welcoming and friendly staff and not overly busy on a Wednesday night. We were recommended to come here and were not disappointed. Wide ranging menu. Chicken and steak Diane both tasty with veg and perfectly roasted potatoes. Calzone also a good choice. What is a Cuban pizza? There's not much like it. It's similar to a deep dish style pie, but is normally eaten with a knife and fork. The food was sooooo good! Great Cuban sandwich with juicy roast pork filling, the most delicious Chicago style deep dish pizza with Chorizo, tres leches cake (only remembered to photograph after eating most of it! . Also check out Joe the friendly owner! I searched google for 20 mins trying to decide what to eat and decided on this place. Really a gem with great prices. We walked over from Residence Inn Marriott and walked back to work off all the calories. :
