Red Pine Cookhouse - Emily

Clean and spacious place with very good food and friendly service. The place has a weird ambiance considering the menu options, but I guess it 's to expect in this area. My friend and I shared an order of the eggrolls and liked them. They were a bit too crunchy for me, but overall tasty. I had the steak and potatoes and it was very flavorful. The meat was tender and the onions and gravy gave it a rich taste. The potatoes were not as crunchy as advertised but they worked well with the dish. Portion size was a bit small for the price. My friend had the sesame chicken with the fried rice. He really liked it and the chicken pieces were big and juicy. The quality of the food definitely exceeds your run of the mill Asian restaurant, but paying $62 after tip for a Chinese Food dinner in the Minnesota Hinterland was a bit steep.

We visited on a busy Saturday afternoon and it was quite hectic. The wait staff were juggling many tables, and we were eventually served by the owner or manager, who was fantastic. Our food came out in two rounds; my side of the table received our meals promptly, while the other side had to wait an additional 5 to 10 minutes. The three other adults in our group enjoyed their dishes, but I found my sweet spicy chicken to be a bit disappointing. On a positive note, we all agreed that the egg rolls were amazing—I'd definitely return just for those! The others who tried the cheese curds and deep-fried mushrooms said they were delicious as well. I might come back, but my partner mentioned he would definitely return.

We are so glad we decided to stop at Red Pine! The food and service were outstanding. Paul, the owner, is a fantastic person, and Rodney is also wonderful—both are very funny! The egg rolls were truly exceptional. In summary, you absolutely must visit; you won’t be disappointed. Food: 5, Service: 5, Atmosphere: 5.
