Wow, color me impressed! I cut my teeth on a lot of great Tex-Mex places when I lived in Central Texas, and damn, this place nails it. I had the Colorful Colorado, which is basically a dream come true. Ever had a dilemma choosing which enchilada plate you want at a place? It's my constant problem, but not here. The CC comes with 3 different enchiladas: smoked shredded pork with chorizo mole sauce, chicken verde, and beef with red sauce. All were excellent, but the pork with mole took top honors. Smokey, hint of spice, and deep with flavors. My wife had the chicken tortilla soup, which is a soup style I loooove but so many places (nearly all) make bland and thin. This is not bland, nor thin. It's hot, hearty, and deep with flavor, and we both loved it. My wife was having day dreams about it for weeks. Love that it's in an old old wood accented bar. Service was very friendly and attentive. And it's in quaint downtown Georgetown. This will now be our go-to grub spot when trekking into/from the mountains.
As I was planning our weekly ride, this time to Georgetown via Guanella Pass, I found Lucha Cantina. It had good reviews, was going to be easy to find, could accommodate a group, and had lots of menu options. (Sometimes it can be hard to please 8 different wants and likes...imagine that???Lol) We had a group of 8 bikes. Plenty of parking in back, which is always a concern when traveling with multiple bikes. It was a gravel lot, but not too bad, even on the bikes. Lots of menu options, including both many Mexican fare options and burgers. All of the food was great and I had several compliment me on such a good find. All of the credit goes to Lucha though. We'll be back the next time we ride up your way!
This was a great experience. A top shelf Mexican Restaurant in the mountains of Colorado. It's located in what I believe is an old mining town, not far from a ski resort. The restaurant is in an old bar. The atmosphere is old western. The food, is excellent, I had enchiladas, rice and refried beans. The taste of everything was very authentic.
Stopped in here with a party of 4 after doing the touristy train ride and mine tour. By the time we got to the restaurant, we were ready to consume our own body parts. Yeah...we were hungry. It's July 4th weekend, so everything is busier than normal. The restaurant was bustling and it was definitely after prime time lunch hour. They brought us to the downstairs seating...which is very interesting: low ceilings, a pool table and an out of tune piano on the back wall. German writing along the ceiling beams and other writing on the actual ceiling. We learned that they don't usually open up the downstairs....only during busy weekends. The appetizers were great: chips with guacamole, chips with queso and loaded nachos. The main dishes? Meh. They were just OK: -Fajitas were not quite hot enough and the corn tortillas were extremely dry (inedible to the person that ordered them). She ordered the corn tortillas b/c she is gluten free but they brought flour by accident....oopsie. -Steak tacos were good...solid reviews there -Enchiladas had to be re-done b/c they put the wrong kind in...so she had to wait a while for her meal while the rest of us ate. -I had the fish tacos.....they were decent...but there was way too much cheese on it. I didn't think that there was supposed to be cheese on them....but I might have misread the menu. Also, my rice and black beans were really cold. Appetizers came right away but it took an extremely long time for our entrees to arrive. Didn't try any of the adult bevvies but they looked good. I would give this place another shot at some point if I'm in the area again...even with the snafus. Nice staff...and our waiter was new. He tried/did the best he could.
