Confusion then settled in for our reservation as to where we should be seated. Once seated, it took a good 10 minutes before...a server even acknowledged our presence. With the absence of a full liquor license, our choice of drinks was crippled to a few basic wines... or beer. Once we ordered our drinks, 10 minutes later expecting our order, we were kindly greeted by a second server wanting to take our orders. The decor seems to have some thoughts behind it, but lacks on follow up with unfinished details, bland walls, not to mention the third floor panoramic view of the roof of a thrift shop and a parking lot. Everything about the decor seems rushed. Menu variety is limited and mostly consists of déjà-vu items. The second star comes from the fact that the kitchen noticed that service was chaotic and we were offered a beef tartare on the house... which we later understood would be the only item any of us ate that had the correct temperature. The main courses lacked in quantity, temperature and refinement. We've prepared better meals when trying to impress our weekend flings in College. The disappointment was topped off with the final decision to cancel the coffee we ordered once we realized they had forgotten the order... so we decided to leave and can't comment on the desert menu. On the bright side, service was exceptionally swift and courteous for the bill, which we swiftly and courteously paid before finally leaving Le Esmond... which unfortunately was the highlight of our evening. In all fairness, this restaurant had just barely opened, so fine tuning is always expected... but the food and decor should be irreproachable since that's what makes clients come back. Unless MAJOR adjustments have been made and consistently maintained, this should be a short lived dream for the owners and the empty space should make an amazing office space for young professionals with a better business plan.
I had high expectations for Le Esmond, but unfortunately it did not meet them. I did appreciate the industrial design of the restaurant, as it created a fun and friendly atmosphere. The staff were all friendly as well, but unfortunately, the food was a major letdown. My boyfriend ordered the Lobster roll, which was supposed to be fantastic according to the waitress, but the bread was so soggy that he had to eat it with a fork and couldn't even pick it up off the plate. I ordered a pork sandwich, which was also difficult to eat as it kept falling apart and was quite bland. Despite our disappointment, we couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation, while the waitress seemed completely unaware. I hope that our experience was just a fluke and that the quality of the food is better for dinner service, as the meals we received were nothing like the ones pictured online.
