Field Fire - Grand Rapods

We are French banquette lovers. We always try to have them, when we visit new places. This is the one we can recommend. The staff is also nicer.

I am a 72 year old bread baker, just to qualify this review. My bread is, she says humbly, legendary in my community of family, friends, and community. So, yeah, I’m a home bread baker of upward to 4 loaves a day as needed. That being said, I have occasions when I need to purchase bread from Field and Fire Bakery at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market. Sometimes it’s for parties, etc. Anyway, I’m a bit of a bread snob cuz that happens when you slave hands in over a home kitchen bakery, but I still marvel when I stare over the counter at their back ovens and equipment at Field and Fire. Anyway, today I purchased a loaf of their “plain” Italian White. Their “plainest” bread. It was perfectly browned, perfectly chewy, the crumb was open and airy, the flavor yeasty and perfectly salted. Just damn impressive. As good as my own!!Service is always friendly and informative.I highly recommend the small seeded bread rolls with the fennel, poppy and sesame seeds. Excellent!A truly great artisan bakery.

Field Fire is a must visit whenever I visit Grand Rapids. Their pastries are delicious and unique loved the earl gray cruffin! The bread has so much flavor and is perfectly soft on the inside and crusty on the outside. I 100% recommend!

I was here to purchase some items as I always do when I come down to the downtown market. Yesterday, however was not a good experience. I walk over and the guy is on the phone. Ok, I wait patiently for him to get off the phone. There is a woman in the back looking right at me. She has not come to help me. Another lady comes up (she was Caucasian) and the lady in the back takes off her apron and comes up and helps her. At this moment I am just like I was here first. The female employee then responds and says You are fine. Her order is small and you can wait. Wow I am appalled at this. I can wait but the white woman cannot wait. Smh.

Excellent bread that isn't even close to being expensive. I'm seriously shocked at how cheap the bread here is, considering it's very high quality.
