We ended up there because my wife suggested Olive Garden and I replied that surely we can find better Italian if she was in the mood for it, and we did. It's getting harder to find non-chain family-owned restaurants when traveling, and this one is a gem.
I was excited to go have some good Italian food based on the reviews, however what I experienced was marginal at best. I expected the “red sauce” to be other than what i experienced. Usually when I travel east of the Mississippi I run into very good Italian food. Wine choices are not good. Maybe the pizza is good. Going to try a different Italian restaurant when I return.
Food was very good. Service was excellent and special treatment for our desserts. Will return.
We visited Salvatore's after a visit to the John Ball zoo. I'm not sure about the history of this place, but it was empty when we visited. The food and service were great, the location was just 7 minutes from the zoo, and we left with plenty of leftovers. The only downside that we saw was that parking isn't abundant and the location doesn't seem to be in an upscale neighborhood.
Very good food and excellent staff. Always got food and delicious. I had the lasagna.
