They are greeted with a sample of the House Jersey Boy Chowder, which is excellent. Fresh seafood can be bought from a display to go. Elvis Impersonator, Karaoke, live band music there is something planned for most days. Where else can you get Swiss, spinach and crabomelet in the week? I especially like the fact that I can get crabs and some other seafood entries by the piece, rather than forced to buy a dozen. Make sure you drive to the building in the back that is NOT thirty Clam.
The food was good. We went for the oyster special they had on Monday and Tuesday. The service was subpar and they have wine drinks. No one seems to know how long the food will take and it is never fast service. The owners sit at the bar and drink every day. The oysters were good, but it's not a very clean restaurant. It looks like many barfly (drunks) hang out all day. They laughed for the first time we went to the oyster night because we did not make a reservation and the bartenders were rude. Probably not back.
This is a rustic seafood restaurant with excellent seafood and raw bar. The food is raw, broiled, baked, but not roasted. The Rohausters of Appalachicola were great and tasty. The cooked shrimps were large and served either chilled or hot. The Kingfish is served bruised or smoked and mine, the boiled was very good. If you are looking for a nice culinary experience, this restaurant mat does not suit your needs. On the other hand, if you are looking for delicious seafood that is not fried, this could only be your place. Many locals and a few snowbirds gave there when we were. This is the best raw bar we visited in 2017.
The complex is very rustic with a local clientele. The Rohausters and the steamed shrimps were excellent. The soft bowl crab sandwich, which was a special not so delicious. We would come back for the oysters and shrimps, but do not order the soft shell.
Thirsty Clam is my go-to spot for delicious seafood at affordable prices. The staff is very friendly and the bartenders are attentive. The owner is always around, giving the place a personal touch. When you arrive, you are treated to a sample of their outstanding house Jersey Boy chowder. They also offer fresh seafood for purchase to take home. In addition to great food, there is entertainment almost every night including Elvis impersonators, karaoke, and live bands. One unique dish they offer is the Swiss, spinach, and crab omelet during the week. I appreciate that they allow customers to order seafood dishes by the piece, instead of forcing them to buy a whole dozen. Just make sure you drive to the building in the back, as the one in front is not Thirsty Clam.
