Sometimes it takes a while to get a server but they are taking great strides in service quality which has been rough the last few visits. Our guy was so friendly and helpful getting our order and answering our questions while refilling water and the free delicious chips and salsa. I ordered the Baja fish taco $4 which was amazing! Crispy battered white fish on a flour tortilla topped with a creamy sauce and pickled red onion! Every bite was flavorful and so well crafted. Still the same day of the dead beautiful art and lanterns in the downstairs potion and dive bar atmosphere upstairs and on the patio. I love the fire pit. Gotta try your hand at the ring swing game!
Love their trivia nights! Tuesday is regular trivia and Thursday is music trivia. Their happy hour goes from 4-7pm and they do cheap margaritas including $12 pitchers. Quality of those pitchers though is dependent on if they feel generous with the tequila that day. We've had pitchers before where I'm like...dang this sour mix is good I guess. Same goes with some of their cocktails. The Moscow mule sadly didn't come in a copper mug and was super diluted. You can never go wrong with beer though and that's also in their happy hour deals. Taco Tuesdays are fantastic! Their tacos are so damn good. My fave is the shrimp and grits with their delicious jalapeño cheddar grits; I get this every time without fail. New favorite now is the flat iron BBQ. Oh my gosh that tender pulled pork plus fried onions is freaking amazing! Their enchiladas are also pretty awesome especially with the butternut squash.
The fried avocado taco was amazing! Very good Mahi Mahi tacos as well. The chips salsas were very good. My hubby enjoyed his beef bowl as well. Pina Colada cake was a delicious choice for dessert. The sweet tea was perfect. Server was attentive and very friendly.
This review is strictly about the current condition of Gringo's. My friends and I were in town two week ago and someone told us that Gringos is a fun local spot. We walked into, what I would call, a college type bar, that is currently under scrutiny from the city and neighboring condos. While their upstairs is apparently the pull for people, it was closed until further notice. While they are a bar, they were out of many liquors and I was told they aren't purchasing more until they knew If they'd be staying open (due to complaints from city/locals). I watched a few people come in for dinner and the menu for food is apparently extremely limited and half of the menu wasn't available. My friend and I did have chips and salsa which were actually SO good. The staff currently consists of one bartender and the manager to do it all... cooking, bouncer (after all this is a college bar), bartender... The speakers for the music are all crackling so I now know why we walked into no music. The bathrooms were real gross.. again, college bar.. but I was surprised considering there were minimal patrons so it seemed plenty of time to keep them clean. Overall the staff was really nice, the drinks are full of mixers and house liquor, and anyone over 30 probably shouldn't be here.
Food was fresh and tasty. Service was adequate. Decorations were very eclectic. A good place to get filled up and move on.
