Our server, Sandra, who doubled as the greeter that evening was warm, friendly, patient and very knowledge able about the menu. I was especially impressed by her ability to suggest dishes that were in line with my significant list of dietary restrictions. If you are up for an adventure, try the Pound Of Shrimp, that will not only fill belly but would make you sing for joy. That was our first visit and it will not be our last.
Hooly Crab offers a unique experience, at least for me, in that a lot of the meal was meant to be eaten with fingers. I used the provided gloves to transfer my food to the plate (more than once as the plate was quite small) and chose to forgo the bib and ate with the fork.I and my son had a pound of heads-on shrimp which were succulent and beautifully prepared. He chose the hooly crab spice, hot, while mine was medium. There are a choice of sauces available at different levels of heat but this sauce is a combo of hot spices with quite a kick of garlic and was very tasty. In my bag I had soba noodles and sausage. I wish there had been a little more sausage and that it had been spicier and juicier. Before the main dinner, we enjoyed oysters, which could have been better chilled. They were just OK - rather small. We all asked for take-away containers so the portions were generous..The service was friendly and informative and, overall, it was an unusual, fun and delicious experience.
My wife and I have been dreaming of crawfish since our trip to New Orleans a few years ago. When we saw Hooly Crab served these tasty creatures, we had to get dinner there. The restaurant itself is nice, not an overly private dining experience, but comfortable nonetheless. The staff was friendly and attentive and the wait for the food wasn't too long.We both had a pound of crawfish with corn and shared an order of okra and an order of Cajun fries. The crawfish, while not as good as fresh from down south, were delicious with just the right amount of spicyness. It's not a clean dining experience as food is served in bags and diners are given a pair of disposable gloves to eat everything with. The only negative about this was having to use a napkin to pick up my pint, as without it, the glass would have slipped right out of my gloved hand. I could have ate more craws, but I left more than satisfied.Reasonable prices, good service and a unique menu make this a restaurant that we'll be returning to. I wouldn't recommend bringing kids here though, it's far too messy.
Bought a Groupon coupon at $29 for $50 worth of food. My husband ordered the dungeness crab with corn and sausages baste in hoolycrab sauce. While I ordered half dozen of oysters to start, with lobster and cauliflowers as entre with Cajun sauce on the side. Took us a while to get our food when there's hardly any patrons there. When we got our food, mine only came with lobster and no cauliflower so I told the waitress to cancel the cauliflower. The food wasn't that great. Would have preferred that it came with a complimentary rice /bread cos I was still hungry after the half dozen oysters and whole lobsters. After deducting the $50 groupon, we still have to fork out about $63 for the balance. And I guess the oysters didn't agree with me, I felt sick later that night. I asked my husband if he wants to go there again and he said no. He already had his experience eating from a bag.
Prior to Hoolycrab, I've been to Captain's Boil which is similar and I was having low expectations for it.__To my surprise everything surpassed my
