The owner is also a really nice guy. He made sure that we were right and he asked my parents if they wanted the chicken kebab they share to be halved. He even bit us a bit when he overtaked the food. This is my first time with Afghan food and I cannot expect to go back and try some of the other dishes on the menu.
Ordered beef cabab and kabuli plaue. Size fast average but. Delicious. Would recommend having an appeal
The only Afghan restaurant in Newcastle (Hamilton) and an amazing one. Nice owner, great food. Missing this kind of food in Newcastle, but not anymore. Just a request to Newy locals, please support this small restaurant and business. Newcastle needs and deserves such diversity in food. Although I am Pakistani myself (lived in Newy for 4 years), I drove for this kind of food to Sydney. Believe me, if you have the taste for it, you will get better food for less money compared to fantasies in the same Schnaps area. I'm not trying to say that other places are bad, but this place adds only the variety of our dry food scene in Newcastle. I can assure you, and the owner will not admit that they offer Kebabs as an appropriation for locals who have no idea what to order. But if you try the Karahis (meat in curry in a pan), or lamb or even Afghani Pulao (Pilaf), I can assure you, you will love it. After traveling to over 20 countries and trying all kinds of food around the world, I can assure you that Afghan cuisine is one of the best. Well, you might wonder why I wrote this long review; for a simple reason, my wife from Newcastle and Newcastle is now my second home, so I want the city to have different and diverse food options and this place adds this diversity. Finally, the reason why I wrote my longest (from dozens of reviews) per rating is because when I visit this place, even on weekends, it is more or less empty and I feel bad for the owner. I feel bad that we have a cheap food option where the owners themselves cook fresh, and still visit very few people. In short, this place is a MUST VISIT for all Newy Food lovers.
I enjoyed the generous portion of bollani filled flatbreads and will try other Afghan specialities again. The owner, Shams, is a hardworking and very friendly guy, like most Afghans I know.
The food is excellent and the owner so welcoming and friendly! We had dinner last night here, and opted for chicken saffron skewers and a lamb pide. My partner could see both being made fresh, and you could taste the difference too! The chicken was deliciously chargrilled smoky and crisp on outside while being tender inside.the rice was great too, it was topped with grated cooked carrot and raisins. Yum! Really well seasoned and came with a zingy garlic dipping sauce. We also ordered a lamb pide to share. This was one of the best pides I have ever had there was so much delicious filling and the pide bread had a great texture. Chewy, crispy and fluffy. You could tell it was made fresh on order. We got one main each to share, and they were very generous. For less than $50 total including soft drinks we had a memorable meal. The restaurant itself was nice and quiet some places can get really stressful and busy on a saturday night. After the meal the owner joined us for a chat. He was lovely, and genuinely interested where we had travelled from (locals for around 5 years). Definitely going to become our new local!
