Als Chickenette - Hays

This restaurant was excellent. If you happen to pass by, it is a must-stop for delicious food.

Some of the best fried chicken I've had! Soup and mashed potatoes were great too! And the staff was excellent!

While on a drive East on I-70, I searched for places to eat in Hays, KS and came across Al's Chickette. Intrigued by the charming name, I decided to stop in. The fried chicken was outstanding - the best I've ever had! It wasn't greasy at all. The mashed potatoes and gravy reminded me of the ones my mom used to make when I was a child. If you're passing through Hays and in need of a meal, this is the place to go! The hot yeast rolls were perfectly cooked. We also got a piece of apple pie to take with us and it was delightful.

One of our favorite stops from I70. A short jaunt from the Interstate, but worth the side trip. Another simple delicious meal at Al's. The third time I checked them, as we cross the country. Every time I'm glad I stopped. This is a taste of local taste. Every meal starts with warm butter rolls. Salad is crisp, and in chilled dishes served chicken fried steak, so easily it floats over the plate. Juicy, tender, delicious roasted chicken. Make sure to ask about the daily cake choice, and do not miss the wonderful ice cream. Excellent service.

The food at this restaurant is absolutely delicious, especially the cake and ice cream which were yummy! I tried the chicken steak and the coffins, and I highly recommend both. I'm usually not a fan of crust, but the crust on the Dutch apple cake was incredibly tasty. And of course, the cake itself was fantastic too!
