Contribuisci feedbackWe very much enjoyed teishoku (dinner meal C and B). Tuna sashimi quality is great. The “sukiyaki” dropped the ball (decent, but more like side dish rather than a formal sukiyaki. Sunomono and tsukemono are basic. Miso soup is basic. Tempura is well fried and well seasoned. Service is efficient, and overall very welcoming. We love the vibe and interior design of this vintage Japanese shokudo, very authentic. Price point is slightly on the high side given the above limitations (would earn 5 stars if price drops 10-20% or if quality improves slightly). That said, we had an awesome meal and ate a lot of vegetables. No need reservation. Has free parking in front of restaurant.
Lovely food and friendly service. Feels like stepping back into old Hawaii. Came with hungry toddler. Owner welcomed us, despite being busy. 5th generation ownership and the pride and heritage just shine. Food came out quickly. Lovely noodle dishes, excellent tuna and veggie tempura. Such friendly service. One of the best meals we had on Big Island, and worth every penny.
Teshima's Restaurant offers a delightful journey into Hawaii's culinary past, serving up homestyle comfort food that warms both the stomach and the soul. This charming establishment proves that sometimes, the most satisfying dining experiences come from places that embrace their history. The Kona Beef Curry Stew is a standout dish that exemplifies what Teshima's does best. Rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care, this stew embodies the essence of local Hawaiian comfort food. It's the kind of meal that makes you feel like you're dining in someone's home rather than a restaurant. While the interior of Teshima's may be considered dated by some standards, it's precisely this lived-in atmosphere that gives the restaurant its unique character. The decor serves as a time capsule, transporting diners to an earlier era of Hawaiian dining. This nostalgic ambiance adds an intangible but essential ingredient to the overall experience, enhancing the homey feel of the food. The charm of Teshima's lies in its authenticity. It's not trying to be trendy or modern; instead, it confidently embraces its identity as a longstanding local favorite. This sincerity is reflected in every aspect of the restaurant, from the decor to the menu to the warm service. For those seeking an genuine taste of old Hawaii, Teshima's Restaurant delivers in spades. It's a place where the food is comforting, the atmosphere is nostalgic, and the overall experience is a refreshing departure from more polished, contemporary eateries. Teshima's reminds us that sometimes, the most memorable meals come from places that have stood the test of time, continuing to serve up delicious food and a slice of local history.
