We visited Mia on a Saturday afternoon, and all I can say is, where has this place been my whole life? It’s not a large venue, but it definitely attracts a lot of people.
We received a wonderful greeting from our server, Paul, who made sure our experience was seamless from start to finish. The patty melt was amazing! Plus, they offer free ice.
I went to Mia's for a date, but we had first checked out Grace's, which is extremely overpriced. My date had never been to Mia's before, and it was quite busy when we arrived. We ordered the fish and chicken dinner, and it was fantastic. He really enjoyed it and has added Mia's to his list of favorite restaurants. We'll definitely be coming back again. Food: 5/5
Interestingly, chicken fried steak may have originated in Texas, influenced by German immigrants who blended schnitzel with the region's abundant beef. As for the food, everything was excellent. My chicken fried steak was perfectly breaded, crispy without being greasy, and generously topped with just the right amount of jalapeño cream gravy (not spicy). The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy, while the green beans were fresh and flavorful. We also tried the red snapper fish tacos, which were bright and fresh, accompanied by a delightful serving of creamed corn. I do wish they had okra on the menu! In terms of service, it's a counter-service setup where you order at the front and your food is delivered to your table via a pager. Self-serve drinks are available from a dispenser, unless you prefer alcoholic beverages or specialty drinks from the counter. The service was prompt, but it’s a bit difficult to rate highly since it doesn’t compare to traditional sit-down dining. However, I must mention that they clean the patio quickly, minimizing fly issues, and the staff appeared to be efficient and well-trained. The atmosphere was casual and fairly busy—a nice spot for families. We enjoyed the outdoor patio, which felt less quiet yet still tolerable amid Houston's summer heat, especially with a light drizzle helping to cool things down. They also had adequate air movement thanks to the fans.
