Atlas Public House - Jersey City

Have been to Atlas 4 or 5 times. It’s a very pleasant option on Newark Avenue. Most recently I met friends at Atlas for Sunday brunch. Luc

Appetizers were great- tried zucchini chips and ricotta bruschetta. The entrees really fell flat. A pregnant friend ordered hangar steak medium well, and it came out very rare. Sent it back, and it came back medium rare- red in the center. Took 3 tries to get it even medium and pink. However, this was the only tasty entree at our table of 7. The duck sloppy joe was lacking in flavor, and the burger was uninspired and left several of us wishing we went to Left Bank Burger down the block. Also, we had to ask repeatedly for things- ketchup, extra napkins and water. We poured our own water from a friends purse. Ambience is nice though, would consider going back for drinks and small plates, but not dinner.

The ambiance and service is really good. The menu is ambitious and sets high expectations, the food however doesn't come close to the expectations. We ordered zucchini fries and they were soggy and oily. The coq au vin was prepared with fried chicken. An arugula salad was served as a heap of greens. I'd go back for the drinks and order cheese but no prepared food.

Lots of potential but can tell place needs to mature/work out its kinks. Food was ok though burger was nowhere close to medium rare as requested. Management response was as expected, they remade it satisfactorily. Appetizer portions are small, or from different point of view overpriced for the amount given. Cocktails are delicious though was slow to get 2nd one. As another reviewer noted, tables upstairs are too small for two. Upstairs space is roomier but more vibrant energy is downstairs. Overall I like the cocktails, menu is varied and has promise but will be interesting to see how they improve.

Service was terrible and extremely slow. Water was never refreshed. They could have just left water on table for ourselves to refill. Food was just okay. Waiter was very inattentive. At the end of dinner two of fives plates were removed. Had to wait 25 minutes for the waiter to come back and pick the rest up. The menu on the website differed from it was when we got there. It appeared as per the online menu there were veg options but once there it was very limited. Atmosphere was not as cool as expected. would def not recommend.
