The service was surprisingly good considering that most Chinese restaurants do provide shoddy service. As for the food, The tofu soup had a generous variety of ingredients, the sweet and sour pork had the right texture, beef flank pot was okay and too overpowering and the pork meatball and tofu pot was pretty good. Overall, nothing much has changed.
As authentic as you 're going to get! I 'm the heard of a Chinese dominated area, surrounded only by other Chinese establishments you really do feel like you 're in some sort of 'Little China '. The owner is friendly and is quite pleasant. The food; a bit on the expensive side and is slightly less than you expect given the authentic build up. By no means a bad experience and one of the better restaurants in the area but saldy not one of my favourites. If you 're in the area you must try it, but only if.
Okay, so when you see this place u think dodgy but this Chinese place makes amazing crispy pork with soya and suger and deep fried prawns that is made to perfection, have it with pok chow and of course ask for beef flat noodles, u can eat as much as u want of that and not get horribly full.
Fong Mei has been a family favourite for years. When I visit with my boyfriend these days it's quite a nostalgic experience and we like to try as many different dishes as possible. The owner is also a lovely guy and he's very helpful and chatty. <br/ <br/ Their garlic ribs are excellent, so is their sizzling beef and prawn dishes. For the more exotic stuff, I absolutely love the century eggs (they're jelly, and black, and the yolk is creamy... maybe not for everyone :P , and the jellyfish is crunchy and has a wonderful chilli flavour. This time around I ordered deep fried beef flank (my faves! and it was tender, flavourful and delicious. Ask for the red chilli sauce to go with it as it's spicy and excellent. My boyfriend had the sizzling chicken which was also super tender and had a nice sweet flavour. Their steamed rice was the only let down as it seemed a bit old and hard. <br/ <br/ They have gotten a bit pricier for their main dishes but they have cheaper rice and noodle dishes on the menu. I suppose the price has gone up everywhere so it's just something to get used to. Otherwise this is definitely a spot we will carry on visiting in future.
I cannot wait to go back to this Restaurant (even if to order a take away, which I noted it was quite popular for). Owner is so attentive and friendly. Food was tasty and not to mention value for money. Also had Tsingtao beer which is an automatic winner for hubby. My new favorite restaurant in Cyrildene.
