I totally recommend dining here after you've been through the museum exhibits and prior to heading out on the shuttle to the memorial site. It's a great way to recharge in between visits.I originally wanted fried catfish, but they didn't have it available that day. The servers behind the hot plates were very helpful in identifying what was there. The person in front of me asked if the dish in front of us was burger steak. It was an easy decision after that. That's exactly what I wanted. The nice gentleman behind the counter came over to make sure that burger steak was served properly with all the onions and brown gravy. It ended up being the highlight of my meal. I also selected mac cheese and sweet potato casserole for my 2 sides (1 meat 2 veggie plate). The cornbread was recommended over the roll. It was all good, with the exception of the sweet potato. Not that there was anything bad with it. I just don't care for molasses, and this particular recipe was heavy on molasses. If you're a fan of sticky sweet molasses, then this casserole is for you.Other than that, it was a quick comforting meal. We were so hungry after spending 3 hours going through The Legacy Museum. This meal hit the spot for us. The restaurant was clean, open, and bright. The booth seating was comfortable. Was it the best southern meal I've ever had? Not really, but it was still pretty good. I'd go back again. Hopefully they will still have that burger steak on the menu. It really was juicy and delicious.
First time to eat here and it didn't disappoint. The food was great!
This was our first visit there and the food was good, but the service was EXCEPTIONAL!!! They cooked our meat to order and the place was really clean. I noticed a young man working that had such a beautiful personality and when asked his name we were told it was Mr. Robinson. He displayed what I would call “everyday excellence.” He displayed kindness, patience as well as knowledgeable. I can see him being a valuable asset to the company.
Excellent fried chicken. The only other place I would recommend to eat in Montgomery is “The House” . The Jamaican chefs served up the best fried chicken, crab cakes and bread pudding! Lenwell and his chef team are awesome!
This restaurant appears to be apart of the equal justice initiative museum. I recommend that everyone try this restaurant and determine for yourself how you feel about this southern cooking. I will say that you should be aware of what the menu says versus what is actually available when you're ordering, and also be aware of the number of meats versus number of vegetables available. My family and I all ordered differing meals and while the meals were a bit pricey as another reviewer mentioned, I consider it a donation to the Equal Justice initiative. My main feedback is that instead of using styrofoam perhaps compostable materials could be used given the suspected amount of population that comes through this restaurant. If this restaurant supports the EJI, then support, support, support.
