Island Naturals - Kailua Kona

I was able to get fresh fruits and a couple of vegan protein powders which is a must for me! I am glad they have this store in Kona.

We were in Kona for a week staying at a condo, and after trying to find our vegan favorites at Safeway, we had much better luck at Island Naturals. If you're used to shopping at Whole Foods, you'll find all the standard brands here. Plus, they have a great selection of to-go items, including salads, baked goods, etc. The prices are steeper than at Safeway, but I'm happy to support a vegan-friendly local shop!

We filled up on the hot- and salad bar one day, and there were few substantial vegan options. Garbanzo beans were the only protein, but there was a curried tofu dip in the prepared section. Items were clearly marked vegan, raw, gluten free, and best by . We returned another day for the prepared peanut sauce, and there were many more vegan options at the hot and salad bars that day.
