If you're searching for delicious vegan cuisine at affordable prices, look no further than this restaurant run by volunteers. Plus, all proceeds go towards building the temple.
Just like its name which means compassion this place reflects compassion and purity in its food, service and environment.
This vegan restaurant sits behind the emerging massive Vietnamese pagoda/temple complex. It's a bit daunting to walk down the long long driveway and to wend your way through very private footpaths. But then this restaurant emerges like a beacon. The food is vegan and the drinks are pretty basic. The menu is basic and simple, yet very tasty and filling. I recommend visiting this hidden gem. I also recommend the restaurant serve kombucha or other fermented drinks as their fizzy drink offerings are a let down.
My first trip to Vietnam earlier this year opened my eyes to the variety of delicious vegan food options available beyond the typical pho, bun, and banh mi dishes commonly found in Australian Vietnamese restaurants. When Karuna Vegie House opened in Canberra, I was thrilled to find a place where I could enjoy some of those amazing dishes. I highly recommend their crispy tofu, crispy pancake, and soups. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. The restaurant is run by residents of the Lyneham Buddhist Centre and has a beautiful setting that makes you feel like you're far from Canberra. My only complaint is that they are currently only open on Friday and Saturday nights, but hopefully that changes soon. This restaurant is a must-visit for vegans, vegetarians, and Vietnamese food lovers. Five stars!
