Sushi Bistro - Kirkwood

Located in a strip mall along Kirkwood Road, Sushi Bistro is a nice establishment. The inside is a little small and the tables may be difficult to come by on a busy Friday evening but they have bar seating as well. The restaurant is clean and has an intimate feel with some dim lighting. We have been here several times and have ordered different types of rolls. I like their rolls. They don't make them too large but they do hit the spot if you are hungry. The prices are comparable to other sushi establishments around St. Louis area. One of our favorite and a repeat order is the rainbow roll. I have had better rainbow rolls but theirs is a fairly good rendition of the roll. I have also tried their squid salad and I like it. The portion size is quite large for 1 person and the squid pieces are cut larger than most places. The flavor is comparable to others which is a great thing! When you come in, they will not give you a piece of paper to write down whatever type of roll you want. Instead, they give you a nice, big menu which includes a large list of their normal rolls and a server will take your order, rolls or otherwise. They have hibachi here as well. A very small gripe I have about the menu is the fact that it's quite heavy and awkward especially when you have a smaller table. This place does have happy hour where they give you a discount on the chef's special roll (about 10% or so) and have some cocktails or wine on special as well. Overall, yes I do enjoy this place and yes, I will definitely be coming back.

I ordered the I like sashimi plate. Decent deal for 16 pieces at $25 but the quality of the fish was sub par. Some pieces were tough and still had the blood lines left in. I sat at the bar and the tables could definitely have been cleaned better. Before leaving I realized the only guy making sushi was also the bartender mixing drinks...not sure about cleanliness there but worrisome. Overall lackluster sushi, generic decor, and staff was unengaged.

Found this gem hiding. What an treat all yummy veggies, salmon perfect rice amazing wish i has more. Bookmark this one next time i am in town.

Love coming here! Their Sushi is fresh and the Manager is always willing to accommodate special request. Downtown Kirkwood has a jewel!

I went to Sushi Bistro last night with my husband, since we found a groupon. There were two other tables occupied when we arrived. We were seated promptly and given waters to drink. There was a family with a small child sitting close to one of the TVs, which was playing a toddler's show. We could hear the show all the way across the room, and asked if there was any way they could turn the sound off. The waitress said, no because the baby was watching the show. While I understand that parents should be able to eat out and enjoy their meal, this is a restaurant- others shouldn't have to listen to voices and music from a baby show while trying to enjoy dinner. We ordered two sushi rolls (rock n roll, highway 44 roll), veggie noodles, crab rangoon, and miso soup. The miso soup and crab rangoon were fine, nothing special but still good. The sushi was okay, I had asked for clarification on one of the rolls (Volcano #1, I believe), and the waitress seemed a bit confused, so I just ended up getting a different roll. Veggie noodles were fine too, nothing special. Overall, I wouldn't go back. It was okay, but pricey for the quality of food and what we got. There are other places in St. Louis that serve better food for the same price or cheaper.
