Duma Dum Mast Kalandar located in Chembur is a treat for all the Sindhi's and Punjabi's living in the vicinity. They have 2 levels of seating, I went onto enjoy on the upper level which had a nice bar counter with dim lights and has seating for all group sizes. They had a big table may be for 10 12 people which had Jhulas to sit on one side. The DJ is also great, played all the hit songs to dance on. Coming to food and drinks, they have some really delicious and traditional Sindhi and Punjabi recipes with a modern touch. Almost all the dishes were perfect and mouth watering. Following are the items I would recommend: *DRINKS* •Traditional Sindhi Cool Drink Was very refreshing consisting of watermelon and rose syrup. Very unique taste. •Thadal A Sindhi Drink made up of Khas khas and almonds looked great and tasted great as well. •Balam Kesariya Whiskey based Cocktail comprising of Orange rind, Saffron cream with cinnamon cigar. Was something different! *FOOD* •Aloo Tuk Boiled Potatoes spiced with sindhi masala and crisply fried. Loved it! •Chicken Papad Fry Deep fried flat soft Chicken crumbed with papad. Must try. •Punjabi Paneer Tikka Soft cubes of panner perfectly roasted with pudian chutney. Lovely! •Lahori Chicken Tikka Chicken pieces perfectly grilled and roasted with a nice smokey flavour was so delicious. •Sev Tamate Ji Bhaji Spicy and Delicious made with juicy tomatoes topped with sev. •Amritsari Paneer Kulcha Traditional Amritsari Kulcha with spicy paneer stuffing was very yummy. •Sindhi Masala Kulcha I love Kulchas amd this one didnt dissapoint too, was buttery and amazing. •Rabri Falooda Vermicelli in rich creamy rabri topped with rose syrup was yummy. The service is also quick and good. Staff was really very friendly and helpful. Always there to attend. The food was amazing here, try any of them, I personally liked LAHORI CHICKEN TIKKA ALOO TUK the most, TRADITIONAL DRINK was one great drink and RABRI FALOODA was delicious too! Had a great time here and enjoyed it. Would definitely love to visit this place again. VERDICT: Ambience: 4.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Value For Money: 5/5 Overall: 4.5/5
This is really an amazing and wonderful place to dine. It serves old sindhi dishes mostly. The food and the place is totally worth it. The ambience is quite attractive and catchy. It's also one level up place with different seatings from individuals to huge family seatings. It's also server's alcohol and there's a small bar kinda setup. The food is just lip smacking and very generous amount of quantity. Just not by the name, but food tastes amazing and flavours are amazing! The dishes we tried were: lahori chicken tikka and sindhi style chicken better with naan.
New Place Alert Duma Dum Mastkalandar has recently started operations in Chembur. You can easily locate this place via Google Maps, just off the Eastern Express Highway. The restaurant offers Sindhi and West Punjabi food, with plenty of vegetarian and non vegetarian options. The place has two levels, ground gives a feel of a restaurant family place where as Level 1 gives a feel of a lounge. Interestingly at Level 1, there is one long table which has high chairs at one end and swings at the other. Its an experience in its own, those who are comfortable sitting on them. Lights of the place are kept dim. They have a full functional bar at this Level. On one of the walls, you will see actual liquor bottles which are compressed and stuck to a wall frame! Very innovative! What all I tried at #DDMastKalandar We began with soup the regular Tamatar and Ajwain Shorba. Ajwain taste was overwhelming in the soup, so those open to it can try. The other options are Palak and Pumpkin for vegetarians. The place specializes in Sindhi delicacies, so we wanted to try special Sindhi drinks! Tried a couple of them Thadal and Traditional Sindhi Cool Drink. Thadal was Khuskhus based and Traditional Sindhi Drink was Watermelon based with some rose syrup. Both the drinks were chilled and had plenty of ice in it. My preference amongst the two would be Thadal. Along with the drinks we got some Chakna Spiced Channa. Served to us in a nice cute steel basket! Was really looking forward to the snacks and starters (Sindhi specialities) that this place was offering. We ordered quite a few Aloo Tuk, Sindhi Tikki, Mirchanja Pakora with Gidaambari Chutney and Dal Pakwaan! Stand outs for me were Aloo Tuk and Dal Pakwaan. Aloo Tuk are Crisp Spiced Fried Potato which taste like heaven along with Mint Chutney. In Dal Pakwaan they offer Sindhi Khasta Puri separately and Chana Dal separately with chutneys and onions. Best way to have this is break the Puri, put all chutneys on top, put the chana dal then and again top it with chutneys and onions. Divine! Surely can't be missed. Highly Recommended! Sindhi Tikki is Aloo Tikki stuffed with Chana Dal and Mirchanja Pakora are the regular Mirchi Ke Pakode with chutney. Next, we ordered from the Tandoor Section Stuffed Paneer Shikanji Tikka, Veg Methi Seekh and Tandoori Mustard Mushroom. Paneer Tikka had good flavors however Paneer wasn't too soft. Tandoori Mushroom had a strong flavor of Mustard, so those open to it can have it. Veg Methi Seekh, again good flavor, but like Seekhs that you usually get at other stores, was dry. Honestly, this section can be given a miss as compared to the other dishes tried at DDMastKalandar Moving to the main course we tried a vegetable and dal along with Assorted Indian Breads. Vegetable tried was Kachori Ji Curry again a Sindhi specialty. Urad Dal Dumplings (Kachori) in tomato gravy gave it a nice tangy taste. Recommended! For dal, we tried Garlic Yellow Dal Tadka, blended nicely with masalas. Amongst Indian Breads, we tried the Amritsari Kulcha, Sindhi Masala Kulcha and Satpura (Layered Paratha). Nice meal and something worth trying! Finally for desserts, we tried Te Seero which was Moong Dal Halwa, Kulfi and Rabri Malpua. I loved all the desserts, Kulfi was standard and good, Rabri Malpua was perfect with Cold Rabri and Warm Malpua. Awesome combination. Moong Dal Halwa again served hot! Overall a good place to try out Sindhi and West Punjab cuisine. Good place to hangout with family and friends. Do venture out in case in Chembur vicinity!
