One of the other steaks at our table was severely undercooked. Received a 20% discount on that meal, what a deal. 10/10 do not recommend.
I have been going to the Cavalryman for more than 30 years. It has always been my “go to” restaurant for special occasions. In that time, I have seen some transitions take place – some good and some left a bit to be desired. In recent years, I was glad to see that it had returned to its former glory. However, last night's meal was a disappointment. We were not prepared for the very much abbreviated menu. Some of our favorites were gone and those that were listed were not past favorites. Had I known in advance that our selection would be thus limited and so disappointing I would have gone elsewhere and unless I hear that the menu improves and returns to some reasonable similarity to how it once was, I will not be returning. In addition, our choice wine selection, although it was listed in the wine list, was not available and we had to go with one that was not our first choice. We also agreed that the background music was loud and the genre was a bit harsh for dinner music and made conversation difficult.
We wanted to take my son and two of his friends out for a nice steak dinner. What a disappointment. We had reservations, it took them 30 minutes to get us seated and half the dining room was empty and they weren't allowing bar seating because they only had one bartender on a holiday weekend. The waitress was perky and apologized but obviously overwhelmed. It took forever to just order the drinks let alone get them. I ordered a nice glass of red wine which came in a small white wine glass, which she apologized for and said they didn't have any clean ones. Food was hit and miss, my ribeye was less than 1/2” thick and way over done, not even pink when I ordered medium rare. I did not send it back because we were going on almost 2 hours just to get entrees. There was no fat at all, a ribeye should be marbled, there was no sear at all just a dull brown. My baked potato was very good. The bison burger was good but also overcooked, the strip was overdone and no sear and the beef burger was very good. The interior hasn't been updated since it opened and is very cheap looking. If you are looking for a nice steak dinner, this is NOT the place.
The food was amazing. I ordered the 12 oz ribeye steak, medium rare, and they made it correctly the first time! (Pretty uncommon for some places) The sides were amazing. The seafood is usually yummy, but this time, it was slightly over cooked, but still amazing! It did take some time to get our food, BUT, they did have 2 large parties go in before we did. So we anticipated them to take some time. I recommend Calvaryman Steakhouse over Rib and Chop for steaks mainly because you get more food for your buck compared to them AND it tastes a lot better. Calvaryman also has better options for desserts and drinks. This location is great for dates, anniversaries, and other celebrations!
Over the past several years, Cavalryman Steakhouse has been very hit or miss ... sometimes very good like a couple months ago, and sometimes very mediocre, like last night. We won't be back anytime soon unless we hear that things have improved. The quality of our steak was not good, and the side dishes were equally not up to par.
